Chi Xia is a popular online animal illustrator who loves observing marine life and hates being set up on blind dates.
One day at the aquarium, hoping to make her mother give up on pressuring her to marry, she brazenly declared over the phone:
"Who doesn't know that the eldest daughter of the Zhang family is cold-blooded and ruthless? If you're asking me to marry her, I'd rather spend the rest of my life with an octopus at the aquarium!"
As soon as the words left her mouth, she turned around and crashed into a cool, soft embrace.
The woman had a charming look in her eyes and smiled meaningfully. "You have great taste. Maybe we'll meet again."
-
That "next time" came soon. The Chi family's company ran into financial trouble.
Chi Xia was still "sold off" to the Zhang family by her relatives.
On their wedding night, her beautiful, alluring wife drew her into her arms and whispered against her ear:
"Now that we're married, we should do what wives are supposed to do."
Chi Xia had been so brazen when she made that bold declaration. Now she was a total coward.
"A-anything is fine."
After they married, her wife treated her wonderfully: gentle, considerate, and unbelievably hardworking.
The enormous villa had no other residents, yet it was always kept immaculate.
It was just that strange things sometimes happened in their daily life.
Like how she would often wake up wrapped in something soft and cold.
Like how her wife always bought at least eight identical bracelets.
And how her wife could make a commotion in the next room as if she had an entire army at her disposal...
Carefree by nature, Chi Xia didn't think too much of it at first, until one time she got drunk.
Zhang Yu carried her to the sofa, patting her back with one hand, smoothing her long hair with another, and bringing her a glass of water with a third...
Chi Xia leaned against Zhang Yu with her eyes closed, feeling that something wasn't quite right.
Where had that third hand come from?
She drowsily opened her eyes. A translucent tentacle cast a clear reflection in the glass.
Then came a second, a third...
They emerged from behind Zhang Yu, waving and swaying at her.
Chi Xia: ?!
Zhang Yu calmly tucked her seaweed-like hair behind her ear, looking innocent.
"You said you'd rather spend the rest of your life with an octopus."
"Hic!"
Chi Xia passed out.
When she woke again, her wife was looking at her with concern.
The tentacles, once thick and long, had shrunk to the size of arms. Each was busy massaging her or tidying the room.
Seeing how much her wife cared, Chi Xia persuaded herself:
Maybe they could still make this work.
So what if her wife had a few extra hands? The more hands you have, the more you can get done.
-
But she soon discovered that the tentacles' "getting things done" wasn't limited to that.
At night, four tentacles wrapped around her wrists and the backs of her knees, suspending her in midair. Tears stained her eyelids as she cried out, putting up a brave front:
"M-make them all go away!"
Zhang Yu lowered her head and licked the tears from Chi Xia's face, her voice gentle and wicked.
"They say it's too tight. They can't get out."
