My name is Free Ben, an ordinary unmarried woman from Britain.
Yes, I know my name is unusual.
Freedom. A beautiful thing.
But in my twenty-three years of life, I've rarely truly had it.
People are always curious about worlds they have never entered.
I followed the rules and did things by the book, but I also longed for adventure, excitement, and... freedom.
But I didn't have the courage to change my life, either.
Oh... By the time I put pen to paper to write this story, my life had already changed beyond recognition. Of course, I don't hate it. In fact, I'm glad it happened.
I owe it to a remarkable woman I met on what had been a terrible, chaotic day.
Miss Jane Risk, a private detective.
Her life is audacious and thrilling, and even teeters on the brink of life and death.
And I was lucky enough to become her friend and assistant.
I think I ought to record her remarkable adventures.
"Why not, dear Free? I'm sure you can make these utterly ordinary things sound terribly meaningful."
That's what Jane said. She never seems to realize just how extraordinary her life is.
So I'll do my best to write it all down here.
These are the marvelous stories of Miss Risk.
And this is for Miss Risk, who's reading this story.
"Being close to you means being close to danger and freedom. And I'm glad of it."
Author's note (Important!):
I'm an avid fan of detective fiction, with broad interests ranging from Conan Doyle and Agatha Christie to Edgar Allan Poe. People are always curious about worlds they have never entered, so I decided to try writing this story.
Although I greatly admire the logic and skill of Holmes-style deduction, I'm more partial to Poirot's intuitive approach. So the mysteries in this story won't focus too heavily on logic or the mechanics of the crimes, but more on emotions and motives.
Of course, the most important reason is that I'm no master detective, and I don't have that kind of logical or deductive ability.
This story is told in the first person by Miss Free Ben.
It focuses mainly on London, England, in the 1920s and 1930s, the Golden Age of detectives in Agatha Christie's books.
"Londoners in the 1920s walked on asphalt roads, while their souls remained trapped on Victorian cobblestone lanes."
It was an era caught between tradition and innovation, confusion and progress.
You're reading the recollections of a highly educated young woman from the British middle class, so this story is bound not to suit a fast pace. I hope you'll understand.
Also, no matter how hard I try to capture the British style and London's society at the time, I'm just an ordinary person living in the 21st century, so there are bound to be mistakes and inaccuracies. I hope you'll understand.
One more thing: this has no romantic pairing. Great friendship is every bit as powerful as love.
2025.6.12
Update: The story is set in London, England, in the 1920s and 1930s. It was a complicated era, and many difficult topics will indeed come up.
I'm a new writer, and I'll do my best. Just relax and enjoy the story.
Fictional! Past! London, England! Fiction!
Updates have been irregular lately.
Extra chapters depend mainly on how many chapters I've written in advance and how much time I have. For every 100 favorites and 50 bottles of Nutrient Solution, I'll add one chapter. After passing 100 favorites, each additional 100 bottles of Nutrient Solution will earn another extra chapter. Extra chapters for Nutrient Solution will be posted when I have at least 5 chapters in reserve. If I have fewer than 3, I'll have to stick to daily updates. Other extra chapters depend on my circumstances and available time, so they'll come whenever they can.
Theme: Women should be free and unafraid of taking risks.
I give a big thumbs up to the diligent author (even if I update it every day, I updated two chapters today), let me tell you my opinion. I had an illusion after reading this, feeling that Miss Riske is a personnel member of the "Golden Krait" organization [covering her face and peeking], every time I can "find" a relevant figure of the "Golden Krait" organization, but not to the point of being It makes the "Golden Krait" organization very exhausted (after all, every time it is found, it is abandoned), it feels like this organization is optimizing personnel internally, but it has to squeeze out the last bit of value of the laid off personnel (in order to lay off a person, it can turn the person in charge into a positive figure such as a detective to cope with the situation). Used for some future work and arrangements), of course, as I said before, it is an illusion of mine. I hope that future readers and authors will not be led astray by me 🐶 🐶 🐶; and I feel that the author's big idea is somewhat in line with the seven deadly sins (the criminal in the first story obtains money through smuggling, and commits The criminal in the second story committed the crime of anger by causing death through violence, domestic violence, etc.), Of course, the above is just my conjecture, and I hope that future readers will not be led astray by me; finally, I would like to thank the author again for his great diligence 🐶🌹 🐶🌹 🐶🌹
This story just started when Margaret accused her husband of premeditated murder to J and F (the two detectives' abbreviation, they haven't decided on their nickname yet), I had an inexplicable intuition: this woman might want to kill her husband (it was like she was making an alibi), and the repeated sighs of the people around her and her husband's behavior (standard appearance of the deceased) confirmed my intuition. As J and F went deeper, I felt an absurd and sad atmosphere. It was simply the tomb of marriage. Margaret was crazy and rational, killing her husband bit by bit with her favorite "gorgeousness". It was so sad (I'm at a loss for words, I can't describe the complex emotions). J and F are really super good (add filters). Only in the gray area can you live longer (don't be impulsive!!)
A month belated congratulations?
I guess the murderer is Morian. Of course, for fear of giving future readers a preconception, I won't tell you my reasons for the time being 🐶
Congratulations to the author for successfully passing the signature 💪💪💪
The final summary is so well written, woo woo woo woo.
Dad, I shared your novel on Xiaohongshu, I must keep writing 🐰
If you follow it day by day, maybe, but after reading it in series, the impression is not bad, and the pace is okay so far.
I feel that the pattern is somewhat fixed, so I will try some new things, and then maybe one or two cases every year. 1924 Was an important turning point. 🤔
Unknowingly, the collection has reached 200, which is great [make me healthy]
