A guide to this story:
An alternate-history setting, with no real-life counterparts.
An all-women world. The entire main cast is queer, and two women can have children together.
Ji Changying followed her mother's wishes and took over as sect leader. The day she did, she knew life would be difficult from then on.
Sure enough, on the eve of the Five Flavors Banquet, she was surrounded by a group of mysterious people in black, poisoned, and left at death's door.
When Ji Changying opened her eyes, she was still alive, though in pain, and the person beside her had a handsome, heroic face.
Her savior was Su Baiheng, who not only healed her but also had a strong sense of justice.
Perhaps it was fate. When Jingxuan Hall was struck by disaster, Ji Changying brought her back to Sifeng Sect.
Ji Changying often told her how difficult it was to serve as sect leader.
Feeling sorry for her, Su Baiheng gave her all of her hidden weapons.
After all, according to Ji Changying, Sifeng Sect was a hellish place that would swallow you whole.
But... the elders who were supposedly going to make Ji Changying's life miserable didn't dare utter a word when she punished them.
Ji Changying clung to her arm, looking pitiful. “Sister, look at them. They're bullying me because I'm younger and don't respect me!”
“Elder Ge has wanted to oust me as sect leader for ages. I can't sleep for worrying about it.”
When everything had settled,
Su Baiheng paced back and forth in the room Ji Changying had arranged for her, then picked up her bundle.
Back then, Ji Changying had only said, “If I'm ever in danger, you'll be able to save me in time.”
But looking at the state of Sifeng Sect now, Su Baiheng felt it was time to leave.
She hadn't even made it out of the courtyard when she met Ji Changying's watery eyes.
The pitiful expression she usually wore was gone. Now her gaze was unnervingly sharp, making Su Baiheng shiver.
Su Baiheng hesitated. “I'm leaving...”
Before she could finish, Ji Changying cut her off. “Where are you going, my wife? We haven't even set the date for our wedding!”
