"A calm, lazy genius shooter girl x her seemingly gentle and cheerful older brother, whose possessiveness is actually off the charts"
*Pseudostepsiblings / size difference / flirtatious type / older mixed-race man
When Zhu Yin returned to China to study, she had trouble adjusting at first. Ms. Zhu was worried that her daughter might get bullied.
But she needn't have worried. Although Zhu Yin was introverted, being a competitive shooter drew plenty of people to her, and she made some friends.
A friend curiously asked if she was an only child.
Zhu Yin: "No, I have an older brother."
Friend: "Then your brother must be as good-looking as you."
Zhu Yin hesitated. "He is very handsome, but he looks nothing like me."
One day, Zhu Yin took her friends to a shooting club, where they happened to run into Lu Jue.
Under the fluorescent lights, the man wore a black baseball cap. Seen from the side, his skin was pale, and his high, elegant nose and sharply defined jaw gave him an austere air.
Beneath his safety glasses, his deep brown eyes were fixed intently ahead. His arm, holding a real pistol, was tense with taut, powerful muscles.
He lowered his gun, walked over, put an arm around Zhu Yin's shoulder, and smiled as he greeted the group of youngsters in flawless American English: "Hey, everyone. I'm A Yin's older brother."
Her friends stared, dumbfounded. "...Is your brother mixed-race?"
Zhu Yin blinked. "Yeah. I told you we look nothing alike."

Zhu Yin and Lu Jue were completely different in temperament, too.
Zhu Yin seemed rational, but she was slow to recognize romantic feelings and held fast to her boundaries.
Lu Jue was different. On the surface, he was a gentle, sunny, wonderful older brother, but no one knew about his almost pathological possessiveness toward Zhu Yin.
So when Zhu Yin learned how her brother felt about her, she couldn't accept it at first.
With red-rimmed eyes, she stubbornly said, "Brother, what you're doing is wrong."
The mask of the perfect older brother was torn away. At last, Lu Jue stopped hiding his feelings and confined her to his room. His fingertips gently wiped away her tears, his voice tender but leaving no room for argument:
"No one can define what's right or wrong, sweetheart. I just know I would never feel safe letting you go to anyone else."
"Beyond the bull's-eye, my heartbeat loses its balance."
