The supernatural organization Night Watchers gathers gifted individuals to secretly protect the world's peace. They conceal their existence, fight the Chaos Shades hidden within human society, and carry out tasks beyond the reach of ordinary people, saving the day time and again.

Newly registered supernatural talent No. 990, Mu Yulin, is notorious for his extraordinary gifts, his unruly ways, and his wild conduct. He often completes missions "perfectly" only for a crowd of people to have to clean up after him. While other gifted individuals deliberately avoid the world, he just gets things done, without holding back, then turns and walks away.

After this happens too many times, the higher-ups assign Fan Huairen, director of the Special Affairs Division, to talk to Mu Yulin and recruit him into the division's training program.

Fan Huairen is known for his gentle and accepting nature. Since taking office, he has devoted himself wholeheartedly to offering what help he can to gifted individuals worn out from racing from one crisis to the next. This rebellious young man becomes his particular focus.

Of course, he has his own reasons. Mu Yulin often leaves him rebuffed, but he never gives up.

Mu Yulin is so fed up with Fan Huairen pestering him that he finally joins the training program.

During the training, Fan Huairen tries to spoil the brilliant Mu Yulin rotten. But then disaster strikes: the Chaos Shades begin operating frequently and on a massive scale, and the force behind them comes to light. The mastermind turns out to be a defector from a century ago, No. 002 in the records.

At their first direct confrontation, Mu Yulin steps in front of everyone and says to No. 002, "I've been waiting for you for over a hundred years."
