Wei Xun couldn't stand rich people.
They reeked of money, put on airs, and made her want to take a detour whenever she saw them.
But her new deskmate was an exception.
Wen Xiaoxiao became her deskmate on her first day at the school.
Quiet and unsmiling, she was like a white rose growing beneath a glass dome.
Was she mute?
Wei Xun curled her lip and decided to mind her own business.
But the homeroom teacher specifically called her into the office. "Don't bully her."
Hmph. Wei Xun might be the school bully, but she had no interest in picking on the weak.
And yet this little mute kept coming after her.
After school, Wei Xun came across the little mute being cornered by thugs in an alley.
They tugged at her backpack and shoved her shoulders. She didn't call for help, only pressed her lips together, her eyes red-rimmed.
Wei Xun didn't know why she rushed over.
"Get lost." One word, and the thugs scattered.
The little mute looked up at her, her eyes dewy as a lake after the rain.
Wei Xun turned away. "What are you looking at? Are you coming or not?"
At the sports meet, someone deliberately splashed water on the little mute.
She stood there, clothes soaked and clinging to her, like a cat caught in the rain.
Wei Xun went over and tore into the girls who had done it.
"Try laying a hand on her again."
She turned and tossed her school jacket over the little mute's head. "Put it on."
One rainy day, Wei Xun passed the school gate with an umbrella and saw the little mute standing in the rain, hugging her backpack, drenched from head to toe.
Wei Xun swore, handed her the umbrella, and walked off in the rain herself.
After two steps, she turned back and pulled the girl under the umbrella.
"Are you stupid? Don't you know to get out of the rain?"
Fine.
She accepted it.
She, Wei Xun, was born to be the heiress's beast of burden.
Until that rainy night.
The little mute was crouched outside her house, burning up, her lips pale, like a flower on the verge of wilting.
Wei Xun carried her inside. She was so light, as if she had no bones.
After giving her medicine and tucking her in, Wei Xun was about to leave when someone grabbed her wrist.
Cool fingers, a burning palm.
The little mute pushed herself up and leaned toward her.
A feather-light kiss landed on Wei Xun's lips.
Like a butterfly resting on a petal, like a snowflake landing on an eyelash.
Wei Xun froze, blushing from the tips of her ears to the base of her neck, red as a steamed crab.
"W-what are you doing?" Her voice came out hoarse.
The little mute looked at her. Not a trace of weakness remained in those dewy eyes.
She was clearly a hunter gazing at her prey, gently and patiently, taking it one bite at a time
"Sis." Wen Xiaoxiao spoke. Her voice was soft and lovely, like a honey-coated blade.
Wei Xun was stunned.
Only later did she find out
The thugs had been sent by her.
She had arranged for someone to splash the water on her.
She had stood in the rain, waiting for Wei Xun for a long time.
The most skilled hunters often appear as prey.
But looking at the sly little girl smiling in her arms, Wei Xun could only ask one question:
"Why go to all this trouble?"
Wen Xiaoxiao hooked an arm around her neck and leaned close to her ear, her warm breath brushing against it.
"Because I want you."
I want your sharp tongue and soft heart. I want you to secretly hold the umbrella over me after scolding me. I want you to take me home even though you don't like rich people.
I want you. You're mine.
