A player-controlled Batman versus an untamable Robin generator. This is absolutely not the new sidekick I wanted!
Gotham Online, an open-world RPG said to offer players an unprecedentedly immersive experience, so real you feel you've stepped into Gotham yourself.
B was conned by a popular blogger he liked into buying the game for over a thousand yuan. Before he could even finish the tutorial, he was forced to transmigrate as Batman.
Every day, he either got chopped into mincemeat by thugs, watched thirty seconds of his life flash before his eyes, then revived at full health on the spot and drank a healing potion to beat the thugs senseless.
Or he struggled with his grappling hook and crashed into a wall, or accidentally drove the Batmobile headfirst into an apartment building, calmly dropped a "Someone will pay for it," and made a lightning-fast escape.
He thought getting chased by the GCPD and slapped with tickets, being relentlessly roasted by Gotham's citizens, and having people wonder if he'd gone crazy were already the limit of his chaotic and hectic life.
Then the game, without warning, introduced a Robin generator. One Robin after another appeared before him, some of them not even humanoid.
An overenthusiastic Kryptonian superdog: Krypto.
A loudly crying baby Darkseid, apparently just snatched from Superwoman's arms.
Oswald, who had come from the Flashpoint world and seemed to have gotten younger, and more.
Every so often, they would sneak out, use the title of his sidekick, and cause trouble in downtown Gotham, leaving him with enough court summons to pile up into a small mountain.
B's back finally gave out.
He filed a complaint, and was told the issue had been fixed. B thought things would improve.
At the very least, the Robins would be humanoid and stop using his name to run wild... right?
B's mouth twitched as he watched them develop murderous intent toward him at home, looking like they wanted to chop him into minced meat.
"You're old now."
"Gotham doesn't need a cowardly Batman."
"You never loved me!"
B complained again, but the System simply played dead. The Robin generator still refreshed automatically every day, right on schedule, without fail.
As the Robin squad grew bigger and bigger, even the citizens began giving him strange looks.
A different kid as his sidekick every day, and they kept getting younger. What was that if not trafficking child labor?
"Let's go, or we'll get kidnapped and turned into Robins if we keep listening!"
"I'll bet five bucks that tomorrow's Robin won't be human!"
B: "Krypto counts as a kid? Shouldn't you get your eyes checked? And I didn't kidnap any kids. They're the ones hunting me down!"
The citizens: "Got it. You abused child laborers and now they're getting revenge."
B was about to explain when, out of the corner of his eye, he saw a vast army of Robins descending from the sky. He turned and ran.
Alfred, meanwhile, was swallowed by a sea of Robins, smiling with satisfaction as he handed out tea and snacks to each of the "young masters."
"The master and young masters are getting along so well again today."
B, who had just snuck back: ???
