Ji Jinnian and Jiang Chu were natural enemies. They bickered whenever they met, and their fights were the talk of the town.
Their mutual friends thought it was all an act: "They say fighting is a sign of affection. When are you two getting married and cooking up a storm?"
Ji Jinnian flew into a rage. "Even if Jiang Chu were the last woman on earth, I'd rather spend my whole life alone than lay a finger on her!"
When Jiang Chu heard about it, she gave a cold laugh. "A pathetic bottom. You need to be put in your place!"
Ji Jinnian lost it and immediately challenged Jiang Chu to a showdown at a hotel.
But Jiang Chu got into a car accident on her way there. Feeling unusually guilty, Ji Jinnian brought a bouquet to the hospital to visit her.
She had barely set the flowers down when the woman, her head wrapped in bandages, looked up from the hospital bed, eyes full of bashfulness. "Honey, what took you so long?"

After the car accident, Jiang Chu's memories became jumbled.
In her mind, she and Ji Jinnian had been in love for years and were about to get married and register their marriage.
As Jiang Chu called her "Honey, honey..." again and again, Ji Jinnian, feeling guilty, gritted her teeth and played along for the time being.
The woman who had lost her memory was nothing like her old sharp-tongued self. She was sweet and clingy, always asking for kisses or cuddles, and practically wanted to be attached to Ji Jinnian twenty-four hours a day.
Ji Jinnian was secretly delighted, all the while waiting to mock her rival mercilessly once she got her memory back.
But before Jiang Chu could recover her memories, Ji Jinnian got so caught up in playing along that Jiang Chu showed up at her door with a suitcase, took a shower, and climbed into her bed like she owned the place.
That night, with red silk over her eyes and her pale skin and dark hair on display, the woman left Ji Jinnian's heart pounding.
She tried to push her away. "Wait, wait, wait. This really isn't okay!"
An enemy was an enemy. An enemy could never become a wife!
The rejected woman removed the red silk, her beautiful eyes brimming with tears. "Even if I let you have your way with me?"
Hearing the familiar tone in her voice, Ji Jinnian couldn't believe it and let out a piercing shriek. "Jiang Chu, are you messing with me? You never lost your memory!"
After knowing each other for years, Jiang Chu knew that Ji Jinnian was a hopeless idiot who cared about nothing but winning. The only way to make her notice Jiang Chu was to compete against her.
But when she received that invitation, she knew that after reeling in so many fish, she'd finally hooked the one she wanted.
