[I've decided to start this novel and am building up a backlog. If the blurb interests you, please add it to your collection! Any chance I could get 100 bookmarks? We can do it, right? (Desperately trying to be cute)]
[Tsundere little ray of sunshine vs. sickly but bking, obsessive love-brained madman]
In her past life, Song Zhimiao saved the injured Demon God, Shi Lian, from the roadside to repay a debt of gratitude, and lovingly nursed him back to health.
She gave him her whole heart, searched for herbs for him, and broke the curse on his heart. But on their wedding day, cultivators from the Immortal Mountains took her away and sacrificed her spiritual bones to resurrect the Goddess.
As her soul was torn apart, her husband stood in his wedding clothes, his expression indifferent, deaf to her pleas.
When she opened her eyes again, Song Zhimiao had returned to the day she saved him.
A thing calling itself the Villain Self-Rescue System came to her, and she learned that she was merely a cannon-fodder supporting female character in a wish-fulfillment novel. With her extraordinary bones, she was destined to become a vessel for resurrecting the Goddess.
And in that novel, her husband was one of the Goddess's admirers.
Knowing her life was nothing but a book, Song Zhimiao looked at the man who was destined to fall in love with someone else and kill her.
Then let's go our separate ways.
"Shi Lian, I don't want you anymore."
After being reborn, Song Zhimiao has only one goal: stay alive and protect her peaceful life. She wants nothing more to do with gods or demons.
But Shi Lian starts acting strangely.
The coldhearted man from her past life now stubbornly follows her around. He cooks for her, takes a blade for her, and stays up all night with red-rimmed eyes when she's hurt, asking if she's in pain...
Song Zhimiao finds it ridiculous. What is he pretending to be so devoted for?
She's not the fool she was in her past life.
Until a familiar scene plays out once more: the altar, the Goddess, the exact same setting.
Bound in place by an invisible force, she watches the cultivators slowly approach.
She closes her eyes. "As expected, nothing will be different this time."
The next moment, she hears the sound of flesh being pierced.
When she opens her eyes, a sword tip juts from the Goddess's chest.
And Shi Lian is holding the hilt...
He staggers and drops to his knees before her. His face twisted with pain, blood at the corner of his lips, he reaches out carefully, as if afraid he might break something, and touches her cheek.
"Don't be afraid." His voice is so hoarse it nearly breaks. "In this life, I won't let anyone hurt you again."
"Not even me."
She suddenly recalls that she seems to have seen this same pained expression many times, in both her past and present lives...
[Male Lead's Perspective]
Shi Lian went from being the first phoenix beneath heaven and the Celestial Clan's God of War to being cast into purgatory and becoming a blood-soaked fiend from hell.
He has endured slander and betrayal and witnessed the ugliest side of human nature. He has no expectations of this world.
At his lowest point, his Miao Miao appeared.
She didn't care about his coldness or fear the scars the world despised and feared. In that damned purgatory, she carved out a ray of light for him with her bare hands.
And yet, on the day he thought he'd put everything right and prepared to marry his Miao Miao and spend the rest of his life with her, his wife was murdered...
Reader's Guide:
* Monogamous pairing, both leads' first times, happy ending.
* This isn't a scumbag novel. The male lead has never loved anyone else, though the leads do have a misunderstanding.
* Not a strong female lead or a leveling-up story. Everyday-life focused, a self-indulgent passion project: the sweet-and-sour, rekindled romance of two little bitter gourds.
* The male lead has burn injuries early on, and his scars are severe and ugly. (Not sure if anyone minds, so I'm mentioning it.)
Theme: Don't pick up strange men by the roadside!
