In the 1980s, I Found a Rough-Hewn Man to Help Raise the Kids

Jiang Zhifei woke up one day to find she'd become the wicked mother in a novel set in a bygone era.

The original owner had been sent down to the countryside as an educated youth. Unable to handle the hardships, she hurriedly married and gave birth to twins. Life had been going fairly well until her husband fell ill and died.

Then came the wave of people returning to the cities. She decided to go all in: she dumped both kids on Gu Ye, her late husband's younger brother from next door, and ran off by herself.

In the original novel, Gu Ye never married. He was both father and mother to the children, built a successful career, and raised them to become accomplished people.

The original owner, meanwhile, was spoiled, overbearing, and greedy. After learning her children had made something of themselves, she showed up to extort money. Once her misdeeds were exposed, everyone despised her, and she met a miserable end.

The moment Jiang Zhifei opened her eyes, she heard a train attendant shouting, “The train's about to leave! Hurry up if you haven't boarded!”

She went against the flow. The original owner could do terrible things, but she couldn't. She wouldn't return to the city. She'd go back to the village.

As soon as she arrived home, she found the children crying nonstop and Gu Ye scrambling to manage them. Before she could say a word, she met his icy gaze. “Jiang Zhifei, you'd better explain yourself.”

Their eyes met. Jiang Zhifei swallowed before she could even feel afraid. She took the note she'd left behind with the children and said sheepishly, “It was a joke. Just a joke.”

She would turn over a new leaf and raise the children properly. “Gu Ye, thank you for helping me. I'll repay you, I really will!”

One morning, the two of them woke up at the same time. Gu Ye looked at the person beside him, who wore an expression of regret, and sneered. “So this is how you repay me?”

“Looks can be deceiving.” Jiang Zhifei raised her hands in surrender. “It was a misunderstanding, all a misunderstanding. It won't happen again!”

Ahem. But it turned out...

Not only did it happen again, it happened again and again.
