The Little Widower Who Brought Good Fortune

The eldest Chen son had been bedridden with a chronic illness. Somehow, he heard about the tradition of bringing in a spouse to bring good fortune, so his family found him a young man to marry for that purpose.

Little did they know that before the wedding even took place, the marriage meant to bring good fortune ended up killing Eldest Brother Chen. Shen Zhiyue was left with the labels of young widower and harbinger of bad luck.

But the sedan chair had already arrived at the family's door, and the betrothal gifts had been delivered. They couldn't very well send him back. So the young widower stayed behind to care for his late husband's elderly parents and raise his young brother.

The younger brother, Chen You, thought his “sister-in-law” was nothing but a coward. Whether their mother scolded him or their father looked on coldly, he accepted it all without the slightest resistance.

Yet Shen Zhiyue was always gentle with him.

As time passed, Chen You began to feel something more for the young widower.

Half a year later, someone came to propose to the young widower again, offering ten taels of silver as a bride price. His parents saw the money and wanted to sell him off.

Chen You's face turned stern. In front of the matchmaker, he put an arm around Shen Zhiyue's waist and leaned close to say loudly, “Sister-in-law, why haven't you told them we've already consummated our marriage?”
