For five years in a row, Shu Wang's psychic ability test reports have all displayed "???". Some say she may be the most powerful Guide or Sentinel in history, while others say she's below even the lowest level the machine can detect, which is why it shows nothing.
The research institute set up a special project just for her, ordering her to go in for regular tests and blood draws every month. But after three years, they still had no research findings.
Finally fed up with being treated like a lab rat, Shu Wang decided to give up on having her psychic ability level determined and leave the Lingshan Orphanage, where she had grown up, to live outside the safe zone. But at the headmistress's suggestion, she agreed to one last test.
As the only known case of an unknown psychic ability, her decision saddened everyone at the testing center, and many people were watching her final test.

At long last, the numbers settled down and slowly stopped at Grade A. The headmistress hugged a stunned Shu Wang and wept with joy.
"That's a very high psychic ability level," the tester said. "You'll soon awaken as either a Guide or a Sentinel. Congratulations."
So, at the age of 21, Shu Wang was sent to study at the Guide and Sentinel Academy alongside a group of 16-year-old teenagers with high psychic ability who had yet to awaken.
They gave Shu Wang a headache with all their noise every day. After putting up with them again and again, she finally snapped and awakened as a Guide, manifesting her psychic ability as... an egg.
"Incubate it and see whether your psychic ability grows as your spirit companion develops."
The higher-ups of the Black Tower issued the order, telling their people to study her spirit companion carefully.
She had finally escaped the research institute, only to end up effectively imprisoned in the Black Tower. Shu Wang planned to fake her death and run away as soon as her spirit companion hatched, but she hadn't expected the Black Tower to send a whole bunch of fluffy spirit companions to test her.
...Well, maybe room and board included wasn't so bad.
