She summoned her spirit form: a soft, cherry-pink shell that opened and closed slightly, revealing glimpses of what lay within.

Her girlfriend fell silent for so long that Bai Xi wondered if she was imagining things.

Bai Xi's heart raced. She protested, but Shang Yunlu only played innocent. "It was an accident. You're overthinking it."

Bai Xi felt terribly guilty toward her girlfriend.

Bai Xi was forced to pin Shang Yunlu against the edge of her office desk. Towering over her, face flushed, she might be a coward, but she couldn't flee in the middle of this.

Shang Yunlu's military uniform was half open. With a smile playing at her lips, she tilted her head back to look at the bashful little coward.

Bai Xi tugged at the buttons of her white shirt, undoing them one by one. Her fingertips trembled, and her words came out as if Shang Yunlu had bitten her tongue. "Stop smiling. Don't laugh at me. If you keep laughing, I won't have the strength to do anything."

Shang Yunlu tapped her trembling fingers. "That's all right. I can... take care of myself."
