Yun Ling was a demon hunter who had slain countless demons and taken on many disciples at a young age.
Then one day, while battling a great demon, Yun Ling was gravely injured. She lost all her memories and even forgot how to cast spells and hunt demons.
As a demon hunter, Yun Ling had made countless enemies. She nervously dealt with the people around her, afraid that an old foe might come looking for her.
As luck would have it, her eldest disciple told her that her youngest disciple was about to finish his sentence in the exile realm of Guixu and be released.
Yun Ling had no idea who he was, but pretended to be delighted. "Really? That's wonderful. Let's throw him a welcome-home banquet."
Her honest, dependable eldest disciple stared at her in confusion. "But, Master, you were the one who banished him to Guixu! You even said you were expelling him from the sect and would never have anything to do with him again."
Yun Ling: ?
He sighed. "Little Junior Brother had a fortuitous encounter in Guixu and grown much stronger. He's fought his way here, saying he's going to make you pay."
Yun Ling: ??

Yun Ling racked her brain and finally recalled a few things about her youngest disciple.
The young disciple was named Liu Chenshui. His parents had both been killed by demons, and she had saved him, taken him in, and patiently taught him.
Yun Ling thought that since things had come to this, she might as well bury the hatchet. What could a master and disciple possibly have to hold against each other?
As his master, she didn't mind giving him a chance to make peace.
So the next day, she threw Liu Chenshui a lavish welcome-home banquet.
Taking the young man's hand, she smiled, her eyes curving into crescents. "You're back! I've missed you so much."
She failed to notice the handsome young man's face stiffen, or the inscrutable look in his eyes.

That night, beaded curtains and silver screens stretched away into the distance, while the lamplight glowed dim and hazy.
A scorching body pressed against Yun Ling from behind. The young man wound around her like a snake, his long-fingered hand turning her chin toward him as he chuckled softly. "You don't remember anything, do you?"
"How pitiful, Master."
As he spoke, he bit her neck as if consumed by hatred, leaving a bloody mark.
When she met the young man's sinister gaze, a scene suddenly flooded Yun Ling's mind
At last, she remembered why she had expelled him from the sect.
It had been a night just like this one. She had passed by his room and glimpsed through the door left ajar
His room was piled with things she had used, and he was stroking her portrait on the wall, lost in a feverish reverie, breathing softly as he whispered:
"Master."
