Xiao Linjiang had three great pleasures in life: drinking, taking disciples, and making friends.
One day, he arranged to have a drink with the Demon Venerable. On the way, they passed the Purgatory of Rebirth, where countless demons had gathered, all fighting over a true dragon's egg.
The egg hung over blazing flames. It was a lovely golden color and looked delicious. Xiao Linjiang squatted nearby with great interest, planning to wait until it was roasted and then steal it as a snack to go with his wine.
After three days and nights of patient waiting, the egg actually hatched. A little black dragon wriggled out and wailed.
Xiao Linjiang's heart softened. So be it. It was a living creature, after all. He took the black dragon as his disciple, named him Xiao Hanxing, and brought the little fellow along to the Demon Venerable's residence.
He poured a cup of ambrosia, but no amount of drinking could get him properly drunk. In a drunken dream, he suddenly had an epiphany and immediately flew back to the Immortal Realm to enter seclusion and dream on it.
He slept for ten years.
Ten years later, an urgent message came from the Demon Realm.
Oh no, he'd forgotten that he had left a little dragon disciple behind in the Demon Domain.
In those ten years, the little black dragon who had once known only how to wail had grown into a delicate, adorable boy. He gazed at Xiao Linjiang with big, dark eyes, looking so timid that Xiao Linjiang was overcome with guilt.
His dear friend, the Demon Venerable, was teary-eyed as they bid farewell, seemingly reluctant to part. Xiao Linjiang asked, "How about we just let the child take you as his master instead?"
The Demon Venerable waved his hands over and over, covering his mouth as he wiped away tears and chased the two of them out of the Demon Domain.
He should have understood then. Those weren't tears of parting. Someone was crying tears of joy!
Only after bringing him home did Xiao Linjiang discover that his obedient little disciple was nothing of the sort.
On the first day, the little fellow tore apart his cave residence. When Xiao Linjiang woke up, he was sleeping on a mountainside.
On the second day, his little disciple drank every last drop of the hundred jars of wine he'd hidden away.
On the third day, he discovered that his little disciple would eat absolutely anything.
He flew past the immortals with a battered flying sword underfoot and his mud-covered disciple in hand, his face as cold as ice.
From then on, the aloof Divine Lord's image was shattered for good.
He couldn't beat him. The dragon clan had tough hides and hard bodies. Hit him lightly, and it was like scratching the black dragon. Hit him harder, and Xiao Linjiang worried he might kill him. Besides, his little disciple always looked at him with tearful eyes and apologized, saying he wouldn't do it again, then secretly hooked Xiao Linjiang's finger with his little tail.
Xiao Linjiang admitted that he was a soft-hearted master.
Sometimes he even wondered about his disciple's intelligence. Could the fire in the Purgatory of Rebirth ten years ago have damaged the child's brain?
He never learned his lesson. Not once. And he was terribly clingy, sniffling, "Master, I'm sorry. Master, please don't leave me again."
Xiao Linjiang gazed up at the sky with a long sigh, hugged his disciple tight, and wept.
The free-spirited Divine Lord, who came and went like the wind, had finally been driven mad into a hapless soul who knew better than to walk a dog without a leash.
Extra scene:
The door opened, and a fresh breeze swept in from the outer room, stirring the curtains. Beneath them, the tip of a dark dragon's tail hung limply over the edge of the bed.
Xiao Linjiang set down his sword and the oil-paper parcel, walked to the bed, grabbed the dragon's tail, and tucked it under the covers.
Xiao Hanxing was sleeping soundly with his bottom sticking up. At the noise, he woke in a daze and mumbled, "Master?"
"I'm here. Go back to sleep."
A fluffy head burrowed into Xiao Linjiang's arms, and the dragon's tail curled around his arm. His little disciple shifted in his sleep, his robe riding up to reveal a stretch of pale waist.
Xiao Linjiang's gaze darkened. He gently brushed his thumb over the disciple's reddened eye.
Today, at last, there would be peace and quiet.
Getting fucked until he couldn't get out of bed was a kind of exertion, too.
Reader's guide:
1. An old-school older-man/younger-man master-disciple fantasy, featuring the much-loved true dog-training romance.
2. Silly child-rearing in the early chapters; later, the master fakes his death and the disciple goes berserk. After the master's return, the disciple becomes an outrageously clingy little thing, following him everywhere and never letting go again.
3. Their feelings are mutual, not unrequited.
4. This isn't a story written to cater to either side. It's a balanced couple-focused story; if that's not your thing, please steer clear.
5. A very happy ending.
