A ’90s Widow Marries Again

Hua Yun was widowed at sixteen, and lived with her mother-in-law, who had been widowed herself at a young age.

The two of them ran a small tailoring business, and their lives were pretty good, except her mother-in-law was always worrying about her marriage.

Hua Yun was only in her twenties, young and as pretty as a flower. She couldn't spend her whole life mourning her husband, who had been so unlucky.

Hua Yun didn't want to remarry. She had plenty of suitors, but none of them stirred her heart. All she wanted was to make more beautiful clothes, earn more money, and build a good life.

Until one day, Zhou Shicheng was transferred to their city.

Zhou Shicheng had been a comrade of Hua Yun's husband. He had looked after her and her mother-in-law all these years. When her mother-in-law had been seriously ill, he had gone to great lengths to find someone who could save her.

Now that he was leaving the military for civilian work, he hadn't expected to end up in their district.

Zhou Shicheng kept them in mind and came by whenever he had time to visit and lend a hand.

After a while, Hua Yun's mother-in-law began to notice there might be something more to it.

"Yunyun, what do you think of Shicheng?" she asked.

Hua Yun chided her mother-in-law for reading too much into it. Zhou Shicheng came from a good family, with relatives rumored to hold high office. He was a talented young man, and had never been married. Why would he be interested in a widow like her?

Then Zhou Shicheng proposed to her.

When he left the military for civilian work, Zhou Shicheng insisted on choosing the city where Hua Yun lived.

Other people couldn't understand why he would pass up better options just to come here. He smiled and thought of Hua Yun's face.

Because the person he wanted to see every day lived there.
