He knew his brother was cold to him because he was an illegitimate son come to take the inheritance. But he was not interested in the inheritance at all; he only had feelings for this brother. He tried with all his might to win Lu Weifu over, but all he got in return was coldness.

When he learned that Lu Weifu suffered from severe insomnia, Chai Ci would obediently carry his pillow and knock on Lu Weifu's bedroom door every night. He would lie down quietly and let Lu Weifu hold him to sleep, thinking that might make his brother like him a little more.
