When Qionghua first met Fu Dai, she had just been reborn into the blood-soaked night when the Black Lacquer Forest was slaughtered to the last.
Her clansfolk gave their lives to help her escape, but two dead ends still lay before her: the mountain path occupied by the demons, and the Ravine of Ten Thousand Evils, overrun with malevolent creatures.
With pursuers closing in behind her, she slashed open her palm and resolutely leaped into the ravine, begging the wild Buddha to open its eyes.
Blood crows shrieked and a sinister wind rose. The Ghost Buddha really did open its eyes.
