Mimi has lived for hundreds of years. In modern times, she fell in love with watching TV and nearly became a nearsighted cat.
At the time, Mimi was crouched on the sofa, completely absorbed in the TV drama The Dugu Dynasty. The episode had reached the scene where Empress Dugu Zhaoming dies.
Mimi shook her head and sighed: "You were a fine beauty, so why choose to be a foolish ruler?"
When Mimi finally met the empress in person, even after living for hundreds of years, she briefly questioned her whole cat life. A foolish ruler... How did a foolish ruler walk right out of the TV?
In the resplendent palace hall, Dugu Zhaoming lounged against her throne, lazily curling a finger around a glass cup. Her skin was as pale as fresh snow, her lips red as vermilion. She was so beautiful she seemed almost otherworldly.
She glanced sideways at the kneeling courtier through her drunken eyes, then suddenly smiled. "I hear a beauty's blood is the best fertilizer for flowers. My dear minister, you are so handsome. How about I bury you beside the peonies?"
Mimi was shocked. Mimi was scared. Mimi walked away.

Every official at court knew that the tyrant Dugu Zhaoming was a beautiful madwoman, breathtakingly beautiful and terrifyingly insane. She was extravagant, cruel, and bloodthirsty, and... she loved cats more than life itself.
No one knew when a cat appeared at the tyrant's side. Anyone with eyes could see that it was the apple of her eye. She carried it inside her robe at court, held it on her lap during discussions, and even stroked its fur absentmindedly while ordering executions.
The little cat was black all over, its fur smooth and soft, its molten-gold eyes wide and innocent.
Only Mimi knew how close she was to losing her mind! In three years, the foolish ruler would be forced to abdicate and atone with her life. As the ruler's pet, Mimi would have to be buried with her in the imperial tomb!
Mimi: I'm so adorable. How can I be buried with a foolish ruler?
To stop her human from finding new and creative ways to get herself killed, Mimi tried everything she could think of. For the first time in hundreds of years, the cat who had always taken life as it came fought hard for her own cat life.
Mimi hissed at the favored consort and leaped onto the imperial desk, pushing the jade seal off it. The consort you're cuddling is a spy from an enemy kingdom! The censor you're exiling is a good person!
The tyrant caught the furry culprit and smiled indulgently. "You little thing don't know the rules. I'll let it slide."
Palace attendants: The cat takes after the tyrant. Savage!
Court officials: Frittering away her time on a pet. Foolish ruler!
Later, Mimi remembered that hundreds of years ago, she could actually speak. Back then, she wasn't called Mimi. Her name was Yaoling.
To keep the empire from falling and avoid being buried alive, Mimi, or rather, Yaoling, went all out. So what if she could speak? She could even transform into a human!
And so, deep in the imperial study one night, Dugu Zhaoming felt a weight settle on her lap. The black bundle in her arms turned into a stunning beauty, with flowing black hair, golden eyes, and not a stitch of clothing. Her furry ears twitched ever so slightly, then vanished in an instant.
The woman on the throne's eyes shifted. After a long pause, she parted her red lips. "You... have startled your empress."
Later, after the empress brought peace to the realm, Yaoling could finally lie flat with peace of mind.
But... why does her human keep rubbing her ears whenever she gets the chance, and why does she keep asking if Yaoling wants half the empire?
