Cui Miao was born into a textile family in Gusu.
She was the youngest daughter of the second branch. By the time she was fifteen, she had blossomed into a stunning beauty with snow-white skin. Her family forced her to marry her good-for-nothing cousin, but before the wedding could happen, an earthquake struck, trapping her beneath a loom in a brothel.
When she opened her eyes again, she was in the home of a poor farming family several centuries later.
The family had a grandmother, a father, and a mother. They all had the same faces as their counterparts from centuries ago, but their personalities were different.
The grandmother, as kind as a grand matriarch, was still alive and full of energy. Every morning she banged a basin and hollered for the whole family to get to work, then waved a dung ladle in her enemies' faces.
Her mother, who used to weep like a pear blossom in the rain, was no longer sad. Every day she rolled up her sleeves and shouted back at the neighbor women.
Even her once-charming, lazy father had become a brawny man who could plow two mu of land in one go.
Cui Miao: Wow!
The only problem was that this place was so poor...
There were no fine clothes or delicious food. A tough farm girl who had been pulling weeds in the fields just the day before, Cui Miao transmigrated and found herself utterly delicate.
She couldn't eat cornmeal buns. After just two bites, her throat swelled so badly she couldn't speak.
She couldn't work in the fields, either. One scrape from a cornstalk, and she was covered in red welts.
She couldn't even wear the rough, hard-wearing synthetic clothes. After one day, she broke out in a rash all over and fainted on the mountain, so they took her to the local clinic!
The half-trained doctor: "That's a rich person's disease!"
Cui Miao cried under the covers. "I want silk!"
Silk was out of the question, so Cui Miao could only resign herself to wearing unfashionable homespun cotton. From then on, the Cui family became known on the production team for having "a lady's body and a servant's fate."
After Cui Miao spent two days tearfully picking wild vegetables, she came home at noon and saw her older brother, who had pretended to faint while helping repair the dam so he could get a ride home. He was a swarthy, rough-faced teenager with a familiar expression.
The siblings stared at each other.
Cui Miao ventured a guess: "Spoiled brother?"
Cui Zheng was stunned: "Delicate sister?"
They recognized each other and embraced, weeping. How were they ever going to get by like this?
Fortunately, Cui Miao's golden finger had come along too.
She secretly raised silkworms, spun thread, embroidered, wove brocade, applied decorative weaves, and made kesi tapestries. She only wanted to make herself some nice clothes, so how had she become more and more famous?
