Him and His Cousin

The Cui family fell into ruin, leaving only Lingyuan.

She went to live with her maternal grandfather's Meng family and grew up dependent on their charity, always having to watch their moods.

The Mengs were a powerful, aristocratic family with countless rules. She loved riding and archery, but was confined to the inner quarters, unable to pursue them. With no one to stand up for her, she was bullied and forced to become a concubine instead of a wife.

Cui Lingyuan pretended to accept her fate.

On her wedding day, she set a fire and faked her death to escape.

She didn't care about childhood sweethearts or untold riches. All she wanted was someone who loved her, a beloved worth more than gold.

It wasn't until Cui Lingyuan died in the flames that Meng Qingyan realized she had been deceiving him all along. She didn't love him. She even hated him.

So the most proper and decorous young nobleman in the capital married a memorial tablet and kept it in his bedroom day and night.

Then Meng Qingyan encountered a young woman in Jiangnan.

He stepped in front of her, his voice trembling. "Lingyuan?"

He noticed the child holding the woman's hand. Blood surged into his throat, leaving a salty, bitter taste in his mouth.

Lingyuan was young and innocent. She must have been deceived into coming here.

"Lingyuan, I'll take you home."
