The Beagle and the Cow Cat

Maomao is a cow cat with a colon-shaped spot on his chest.

He's been in a terrible mood lately because the human he found hasn't come home. Every day when he brings his prey back, he has to squeeze through the cat flap. Nobody opens the front door for him, and he's furious.

He can handle the hunting himself. And how dare his human go on a long hunting trip without telling him? He's going to make a scene!

Maomao's way of making a scene is pushing plastic cups off the table, scratching the fabric sofa every day, turning the taps on and off, and so on.

But his human still hasn't come home.

Maomao is lonely, so he starts going out to hunt every day.

There are so many people on the road, and most of them have no taste. Why do they all walk dogs instead of cats?

His underling says, "Because dogs are more obedient, I guess. Humans prefer loyal companions."

Maomao scoffs. "Hmph. Suck-ups!"

Later, Maomao joins the dog-walking crowd too.

Because he found a dog!

If dogs are obedient and loyal, then this one won't leave him.

Maomao tells the Beagle he found, "From today on, I'm your boss. Whatever I do, you do!"

The Beagle blinks his big, innocent eyes.

"I'll take that as you understanding. Now, what should I name you? Never mind, you wouldn't understand anyway."

Maomao is stumped. The dog doesn't understand a thing and just keeps licking the cat.

With drool all over his head, Maomao thumps the dog's head several times. "Bad dog, bad dog! You love licking so much, I'll just call you Lickety!"

But Maomao has heard humans say that a name should have a good meaning.

So in the end, Lickety becomes "Tian Tian," meaning to add more rice, so there's plenty to eat and everyone stays full.

Maomao and Tian Tian get along like a house on fire. The cat and dog happily wreck the house, but they're afraid their human will be furious when he comes home, so they decide to go out and wreck things instead, earning a little food money along the way.

Recently, two little animals have been making the news in the city.

A cow cat rides on a Beagle's head every day. The two little troublemakers strike wherever they please. Sometimes the results are good, sometimes bad. Never mind, at least they get the job done.

Until one day, the Beagle and cow cat trend online for driving a van, and their fame reaches the Animal Spirit Bureau.

The two are recruited.

But Maomao and Tian Tian both hate being confined. Why should they do what other people tell them? They want to be free!

They run away, get caught again, and turn into humans.

The staff at the bureau urge them to behave like proper people and find decent jobs.

Maomao immediately refuses.

He throws himself on the floor, his handsome human face, tall figure, and long limbs writhing like snakes as he shouts, "No, no! I don't want to work! I don't want to work! Waaah, I don't want to be human anymore!"

The staff helplessly look at Maomao's companion, who seems well-behaved, sensible, and calm. Surely he can help talk Maomao around.

Then the composed Tian Tian, wearing a handsome, expressionless face, flops onto the floor with a thud, crawls around ominously, and makes a "werwerwer" sound.

His tone rises and falls, matching Maomao's cries.

Everyone in the lobby is dumbfounded.

Eventually, the two are forced to reform and live like proper people.

If they're going to live as humans, it seems they should fall in love and get married, too?

The cat and dog naturally end up together.

Their species don't matter, but someone refuses to issue them a marriage certificate.

The reason: Same-sex couples have to go abroad to get married in the human world, and you can't get married if you're different species either.

Maomao instantly perks up. He and Tian Tian exchange a look and start gathering their strength.

Can't get married? Then they won't be human anymore!

A friendly reminder:

2. The top is a dog, but he doesn't eat poop, okay? Not anyone's poop.
