One day, Ji Lin, a cash-strapped otaku, was struck by an object from outer space. While unconscious, she heard a sinister laugh from a guy who claimed to be the Evil Version of the Tycoon System.
System (darkly threatening): Heh heh heh, I'm going to make you suffer as much as possible. You'll have endless money, but you'll only be allowed to waste it on utterly worthless things...
Ji Lin fell silent, thought it over, then slapped the table and jumped to her feet. "You came to the right person!"
The startled System (jerking backward): Huh?
Smiles don't disappear, they just move from one face to another. Ji Lin cackled as she toyed with the System, which had no idea how terrifying otakus could be:
"Don't underestimate the bond between otakus and plastic characters, scrap metal, and commissioned manga and novels that you can't eat or wear!"
Before the System's beady eyes, Ji Lin waved her hand and swept through the scenic listings on a certain seafood shopping platform, then splurged on a top artist to draw and write for her favorite obscure character from the Arctic. She sent out birthday treats by the minute.
Worthless? Why not just go against the way capital thinks? First, acquire a few unscrupulous official companies, then fund some promising creators.
Management who make ignorant promotion decisions and seem to have character haters among them? Fire them all!
An artist with an unbelievably ugly style who somehow always gets chosen to make merchandise, and seems to have connections with the official company? Show them the door!
A story with a perfect plot, beautiful art, and creators of good character, but about to be cut short because it doesn't have enough short-term commercial value? Let them keep writing without fear!
No more PowerPoint presentations. Give them all the funding they need. Make gorgeous merchandise and good merch in abundance, and provide the best after-sales service too.
As Ji Lin "ran wild," her balance only grew instead of shrinking.
With a full wallet and a fulfilled spirit, she stood at the summit, eyes shining as she gazed into the distance.
It seemed there was still so much more she could do.
