How to Raise a Little Dragon

The evil dragon Suisui woke up one day to find his mountain of gold gone, his hidden spirit stones reduced to powder, and even the reverse-scale necklace he planned to use for a proposal missing.

The little dragon, who had gone from rich to broke in an instant, was furious.

With a roar, Suisui followed the necklace's scent to find the villains who had stolen his treasures. He was going to catch every last one of them.

He wouldn't leave them a single coin.

Xu Yi had always been the pride of heaven: top student, handsome, and heir to a wealthy family. He had every advantage, and his only problem was that his parents were a little crazy.

They were always studying piles of scrap metal, then putting on mysterious airs and telling him, "You're the sole heir to the Dragon Slaying Clan."

Thousands of years ago, their ancestor defeated an evil dragon and made a pact between Xu Yi and the dragon. Soon, he'd have a little dragon for a wife.

He didn't believe a word of it.

What era was this? Who still believed in superstitious fantasy? Couldn't they have some faith in science?

Then, on his way home, he found a soft, pudgy, little unknown monster with blunt horns.

The little monster gazed at him expectantly, making little cooing sounds as if begging for attention.

Xu Yi poked his white belly, leaving a little dent.

"Where did you come from, little monster?"

Overweight, with sore wings and no strength left, the little dragon weakly bit the person who had stolen his necklace and snarled fiercely.

"Tremble! Weep! I am the most terrifying, powerful evil dragon in the world!"

Xu Yi burst out laughing, finding it ridiculous.

There was no such thing as a real dragon. He even had the legendary Dragon-Slaying Sword at home.

That sword was rusty.

The little evil dragon never thought he'd be so unlucky as to walk right into the dragon slayers' lair.

He hadn't gotten his treasures back, and now he was trapped and oppressed every day.

He wanted a 3.9-yuan milk tea. No, he had to drink the fruit tea Xu Yi made.

He wanted an 8.8-yuan braised chicken rice bowl. No, he had to eat freshly cooked meals from Xu Yi's home.

He wanted to climb a tree and sleep in a nest abandoned by a free-range bird. No, he could only sleep in the soft, fragrant nest at Xu Yi's house, filled with jewelry.

This man was so mean, always going against the dragon.

The little evil dragon was very, very unhappy. After planning for a long time, he finally ran away while Xu Yi was out of town for work.

The dragon sat at the highest point of a cave piled with gold and silver jewelry Xu Yi had given him. He hugged his tail, wore a designer outfit Xu Yi had personally bought, and chewed on desserts made especially by the Xu family, looking down at Xu Yi with an air of superiority.

"Hmph, this is my territory. Did you think you could boss me around like before? I could knock you down in a second. Hurry up and beg for mercy, and maybe I'll spare your life."

Xu Yi gazed at Suisui and drew the Dragon-Slaying Sword, which had somehow been sharpened until it gleamed.

The arrogant little dragon stumbled and fell in fright, looking utterly confused.

Xu Yi, however, smiled brightly. With a twist of his wrist, he danced the sword so quickly it became a blur, then held out a sliced apple while the dragon watched warily.

"King Suisui."

"Please eat."
