On the first day of the new millennium, about five hundred people attended a press conference hosted by Vita Biotech. The founder announced that they had successfully created "the first artificial angel in history."
Although only a few blurry photos of this bizarre "artificial angel" remained, every reporter, industry insider, and commentator present agreed, remarkably, that "they had witnessed a fearsome being" and "it would become a miracle of the new century."
Seven days after the announcement, Vita Biotech abruptly canceled the angel exhibit that had been scheduled to open to the public, offering no explanation. At the same time, all information about the "angel" was removed from the company's website, and related advertisements were discontinued.
The brief "angel miracle" vanished in the blink of an eye. The public generally dismissed it as yet another sensational hoax at the turn of the century, just like the lizard people, mothman, yeti, and sea monsters they had heard so much about.
Tuesday, December 25, 2012. Christmas Day.
A fire destroyed Vita Biotech's headquarters. Several researchers perished in the flames, and the founder disappeared without a trace.
Wednesday, January 1, 2025.
In the biting winter wind, Eve dragged a 30-inch suitcase along the interstate and hitched a ride.
The driver was a friendly, hospitable young man. Over the past three years, he had kidnapped and tortured twelve hitchhikers, and remained at large. The media called him the "Highway Butcher."
Five days later, the "Highway Butcher's" body was found.
