As the eldest princess of Wei, Chi Yu was born into splendor, yet trapped by her country's weakness.
When she was sent away in a political marriage, she became a caged bird in the residence of Su Yi, a powerful official of an enemy state. It was called "looking after her," but in truth she was a prisoner.
Everyone thought she would be the first pawn sacrificed in the game of a chaotic age, at the mercy of others, destined to wither in misery.
But no one knew that beneath her plain robes lay the power to turn the world upside down.
She planned each move carefully, using herself as bait to draw the mighty General Zhenbei, whose power dominated the court, little by little into the web of love she had woven.
Su Yi had thought he was raising a tame little songbird,
never realizing she was the most difficult game of his life to solve, the most untamable eagle.
He believed himself to be the player, not knowing that from the very beginning, he had been in her grasp.
She told him, "I will wait for you, but not for long."
Later, she walked through blood and fire, changing from his empress into his enemy.
Reader's note: I came up with this story a few years ago and wrote half of it. I touched it up a little and finished it over the last few days. It's an old idea, so if you don't like it, just drop it.
