As a wizard from a higher world, Wumian accidentally blew himself into transmigration while conducting a magic experiment.
The good news: he was alive.
The bad news: the experiment had failed spectacularly. He had lost all his magic, reverted to his original cat form, and blown one of his legs lame.
Wumian limped along the roadside, pondering the rocky life of a cat, and knocked down a lunatic who tried to kick him for good measure.
Then he turned and locked eyes with a gloomy boy in a wheelchair.
The poor human had one more broken leg than he did.
Perhaps they felt sorry for each other. The boy picked him up and took him home.
Damn it, a wizard would never let himself be kept as a pet...
The moment Wumian saw the luxurious manor, his resistance turned into coy acceptance.
Wen Cen was destined by this world to be its villain. Switched at birth and bullied throughout his childhood, he returned to his family only to find his parents favoring the protagonist, the fake young master. In the end, he was crippled, condemned to spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair.
From then on, Wen Cen's nature twisted, and he tormented the protagonist's family to death.
The world fell out of balance and restarted again and again, but each time it reset just after he became disabled, trapping him in an endless cycle of despair.
But something was different this time.
The protagonist had just opened his mouth to mock him when a passing, lame little cat knocked him over.
Wen Cen: ?
Curious, Wen Cen took the cat home.
That night, the cat wolfed down an entire tuna weighing hundreds of pounds, then eagerly tried to stuff a piece into his mouth.
Wen Cen's eating disorder flared up, and he threw up until the world spun.
In a daze, he tried to convince himself, "You're a kitten. You're still growing, so it's normal to eat a lot."
Being able to eat meant being able to live. That was a good thing, unlike him, neither human nor ghost.
Wumian was very fond of his generous owner, whose mental state was far too ahead of its time.
When Wen Cen couldn't sleep, Wumian let him rub his belly.
When Wen Cen tormented himself, Wumian sang little songs for him, meowing all the while.
Once he recovered a little magic, he started figuring out how to heal Wen Cen's legs.
Wen Cen gazed steadily at Wumian, stroking the back of the cat's neck with his long fingers, his expression unreadable. "You won't leave me, will you...?"
Wumian patted his chest with a paw to promise he wouldn't.
He couldn't help it. This human was seriously clingy with cats.
Later, Wen Cen woke in the middle of the night and couldn't find his cat. He searched all over the empty villa in his wheelchair.
At last, he came upon a bizarre sight in the garden.
His cat was wearing a tiny wizard hat and standing on a stool, balanced on his hind legs. He gripped a big stick in his front paws and stirred a bubbling cauldron without stopping.
As he stirred, he kept chanting spells, while colorful bubbles rolled through the liquid in the pot.
Their eyes met, and silence fell.
Wumian curled his tail. "Want a bowl?"
After a long silence, Wen Cen once again tried to convince himself: "You're a very clever little cat. Being able to talk and make poison is normal, too."
Wumian was furious. It wasn't poison!
Bonus Scene
Wen Cen hadn't tormented the protagonist's family in ages, and his subordinates were very worried.
They went to check on him, only to find Wen Cen holding up an innocent-looking cat treat, staring at the cat.
"Don't lie to me. You can definitely turn into a human. Hurry up and do it."
"Meow~"
It was over. Their boss had finally gone mad.
Both leads have no previous partners.
