Li Qingxiao transmigrates into a cultivation world as the senior brother of a young, destined hero.
The story of the hero joining the sect won’t begin for another full ten years, and the hero himself is only a seven-year-old munchkin.
A gloomy, world-weary cynic who doesn’t care whether he lives or dies, Li Qingxiao has no interest in the plot ahead. All he wants is to burrow into the dirt and live like a mushroom.
But the supposedly aloof and arrogant hero turns out to be an outgoing people person who’s always bothering him after joining the sect.
He’s either stuffing food into Li Qingxiao’s mouth, dragging him out to sunbathe, buying him clothes and brushing his hair, or even trying to read him bedtime stories.
Li Qingxiao has successfully become the hero’s plaything for playing house.
After much soul-searching, Li Qingxiao decides to run away. But no matter where he hides, the other guy always manages to dig him out.
He hides in a secret realm, and before long the other guy shows up with roasted monster meat to feed him.
He hides in the snowy mountains, only to turn around and find the other guy making a snowman named Li Xiaoxiao.
He gives up and crawls back into bed, but the other guy still insists on squeezing into the same bed.
Li Qingxiao threatens him in a hollow voice: “Keep bothering me and I’ll sleep with you!”
The other guy freezes, the tips of his ears turning pink. He flashes two tiger teeth and leans in. “Go ahead.”
…No, no, you win.
Ying Lingqiu has heard stories about Li Qingxiao since childhood.
The greatest prodigy of all time, supreme in the sword path, and so stunningly beautiful that he outshines everyone.
Ying Lingqiu made Li Qingxiao the goal he would pursue for the rest of his life.
But when he finally joins the sect and meets him in person, his senior brother is shambling around barefoot in the middle of the night, hair a mess, sneaking out to rummage for food.
He looks just like a mushroom in a corner, hidden away from the light.
His fantasy shatters with a snap.
Later, Ying Lingqiu thinks: He wants to take Li Qingxiao by the hand and walk with him beneath the open sky.
Ride through the land, singing, and take in all the beauty of the world.
Mini-scene
Ying Lingqiu gazes at him expectantly. “Senior brother, I want to see you wear this.”
Li Qingxiao takes a closer look: sheer robes, bells, and animal ears.
