Serving the King

Yanyan was the most precious girl in the imperial capital.

When she was young, no one could have guessed that this foolish, shallow girl, whose father and brother were both dead, would one day become the emperor's most beloved young lady.

She could gallop through the capital, carry a blade, and command the imperial guards. The imperial family had granted her special privileges.

The empress dowager was her great-aunt, and the crown prince was her fiance.

Even the emperor's own younger sister, the eldest princess, had to give way to her.

But Yanyan never told anyone this:

The emperor was a madman.

She had no idea how much effort she'd spent trying to keep him happy.

Yanyan always got whatever she wanted. Even when she couldn't have something, the emperor would offer her something else to cheer her up.

She'd always thought she'd soothed him so thoroughly that he was wrapped around her finger, easy for her to manipulate.

Until she heard people say that she was nothing more than an amusing little plaything the emperor kept around to stave off boredom.

Furious, she ran to the emperor and pouted, saying that everyone was gossiping about her like that. She asked him to give her a reward to make her feel better.

But the emperor only smiled at her as warmly as ever and asked, "Then what do you think you are?"

Yanyan was stunned. Once it sank in, she realized that what those people said was true.

He really did think of her as nothing but a plaything.

In a fit of anger, she slapped the emperor.

She'd sincerely thought the two of them were very, very good friends.

He'd really made her angry!

Delicate, pampered young lady x mad emperor

Not a strong female lead

The emperor has no consorts, and the crown prince is not his biological son. Everyone knows.
