Betraying Lan Yin

Liang Yin and Xu Chengguang were childhood sweethearts who married young.

Only when he ascended the throne did she realize that all the tenderness, affection, and care he'd shown her, and even she herself, had merely been tools to help him become emperor.

He became emperor, but though she was his wife, she never became his empress.

Watching others receive his favor, she gradually lost hope and could only pray that her family would remain safe.

Just as she decided to spend the rest of her life beside the Buddha's lamp, the concubines who had once bullied her suddenly knelt before her and begged her to save their lives.

He came to her, too, saying he would make her empress, have a son with her, make their child crown prince, and pass his empire down to him.

But Liang Yin was unwilling.

Now, even looking at him filled her with fear and disgust.

To the people of Great Qi and those from humble backgrounds,

Xu Chengguang was an emperor of legendary virtue.

He unified the realm at a young age. Though he used every means necessary to break the aristocracy's monopoly on power, he enabled the people to live in peace and brought stability to the land.

No one failed to praise his achievements.

But only Dehai, the eunuch who watched Liang Yin take her own life in Xu Chengguang's arms on the day she was made empress, knew the truth:

After Liang Yin was gone,

the emperor whom the people admired slowly descended into madness.

1. The male lead was a brooding schemer from childhood. At first, he truly cared only about power and the realm. He never touched another woman or loved anyone else.

2. The female lead fakes her death.

3. The female lead gradually sees reality for what it is and slowly loses hope. Her feelings don't disappear all at once.

Over-the-top melodrama, over-the-top melodrama, over-the-top melodrama [important enough to say three times]
