Xia Youxing saw Lu Shaochuan again seven years later.
The gold-thread embroidery fabric meant for Fashion Week had gone up in flames. She had gone to great lengths to find an embroidery workshop that could finish the job in time. By the umpteenth time a workshop owner told her, "I really want to work with you, but your deadline is just too tight," she couldn't even sigh anymore.
The gleaming elevator doors opened, and Xia Youxing, looking utterly exhausted, stared in surprise at the impeccably dressed man inside.
"Aren't you coming in?" he asked, his voice flat.
His manner was exactly the same as seven years ago, when he had said, "I don't like you. Stop clinging to me."
There was a loud crash. The elevator lights flickered a few times, then went out completely. He pried her clenched jaw open with his finger and stroked her tense, arched back, soothing her again and again. "Don't be scared, don't be scared. Xingxing, don't be scared. I'm right here."
Later, at the celebration party after Fashion Week, Xia Youxing, bleary-eyed with drink, grabbed Lu Shaochuan's tie and complained, "How can you see me and not get excited at all?"
Lu Shaochuan chuckled and swept her up in his arms. "Because I knew I'd meet you again."
There aren't that many coincidences in the world. Most are simply the result of someone making them happen.
