Five Years Reborn, Three Years of Mock Exams

A wholesome school romance with mutual pining between two human blocks

Toss a piece of chalk into the back corner of Class 2, Senior Year, and it won't make the slightest sound.

That's where Ting An and Kang Jing sit, two human machines, two blocks of wood, practically mute.

Every day, they just bury their heads in their studies, with no trace of human desire in their eyes.

One day, one of the human machines snapped.

Ting An threw his head back and wailed, every word dripping with anguish:

"The remote location, the awful cafeteria, the dorm roof shedding tiles... I put up with it all, I really did... Where's my diploma... Weren't we supposed to be done after four years? Why haven't I graduated yet... I don't want to do it all over again... I don't want to be in high school... I don't want to take the college entrance exam... I don't want to take it again..."

The second human machine said, "You're just under too much pressure. Let's go eat some chicken cutlets."

Another day, the two human machines were studying.

Ting An said, "Make a note when you're done memorizing the vocabulary."

Kang Jing said, "Make a note when you're done with the test papers."

Another day, their good friend Shan Xinyang realized neither human machine was in the classroom.

He found an empty classroom upstairs and saw the two human machines kissing...

Shan Xinyang:

"My buddy's gay..."

"Both my buddies are gay..."

"You two little brats!"

! The uke occasionally loses it, and the seme is depressed.

! A slice-of-life story about striving together and finding warmth. At its heart, it's an attempt to bring two gentle people together.

Given the assumed level of technology in the story (1) everything apart from virtual reality technology is the same as in real life; (2) the virtual reality technology described has undergone an initial major leap in development, and is five years ahead of current reality; (3) this content makes up no more than one-third of the main text. After much deliberation, the author set the story in the "near-modern era."

! Some of the fields mentioned in the story are fictional, created to fit the setting: Applied Signal Science (the sensory component of virtual reality) and Computational Signal Engineering (the coding component of virtual reality).
