As a little crane immortal whose cultivation is going nowhere and who has no hope of ascending, Ye Miao feels she has brought shame upon the entire Crane Clan.
Her peers and master all say she is dull-witted and beyond saving.
When she comes home that evening, her mother has made her a huge bowl of nourishing soup. She tells Miao Miao that Old Tortoise came by to complain today. Apparently, to protect a baby bird, Miao Miao kicked and smashed the stone he had slept on for ten thousand years, and he wants her parents to answer for it.
Miao Miao: "...This is delicious."
The soup is savory, and she finishes it as usual.
Until one day, someone takes shelter from the rain with her beneath a tree.
Half of his clothes are soaked, but it does nothing to diminish his beauty. His expression, however, is tense and awkward. He shuts his eyes, steels himself, and holds out a gemstone to Ye Miao, saying he has come to repay her kindness.
Ye Miao: "?"
He says, "I'm the baby bird you saved."
The baby bird...
Ye Miao gives him a careful once-over, then slams the door in his face without a second thought.
She scolds him, "What kind of scammer are you? You even dare try to fool me! Have you looked at how tall you are? Why don't you go ask around? I could smash you to pieces with one punch!"
The young man: "..."
He is a golden ice phoenix, a once-in-a-million-years rarity among the Phoenix Clan. His body is crystal clear, his wings shine gold, and he is an auspicious omen for the clan.
Who could have guessed that on the day of his rebirth, when he was at his most vulnerable, this rare auspicious bird would nearly be crushed to death by a rock falling from the sky?
Fortunately, a little crane immortal saved him.
Without a word, she kicked the enormous flying boulder to bits, grabbed him by the wing, and ran. His newly grown wing nearly got ripped off.
His mother said that when someone saves your life, you should repay them by giving yourself to them, or at the very least...
Fine, he would give himself to her.
But it seemed this little crane immortal didn't quite believe him...

Later, the heavenly tribulation descended.
The immortals wanted to execute the Phoenix Clan traitor who had brought calamity upon the world.
Ye Miao punched through the restraining barrier and shielded him behind her.
