Gotham 2077

V figured she was probably the unluckiest player in the world. She'd only downloaded Cyberpunk 2077 after seeing its promotional video, but the false advertising made her so mad she blacked out and transmigrated into the game.

To make matters worse, she'd chosen male V.

So she became him.

She'd barely arrived before the Relic chip had her writhing in agony, and she was forced to face the plot in which she was being hunted. She'd forgotten her original name, and could only go by the codename "V" as she shakily picked up a gun and fought to survive amid Night City's hail of bullets.

From panicked and helpless at first to right at home in the chaos later, V gradually adapted to the world's rules of survival. Kill, loot, hit rival gangs, and when he felt like it, pick a nearby gig from the mountain of jobs and knock it out on the way.

Of course, sometimes things went wrong. Maybe the Relic chip flared up again and made his brain feel like it had been turned inside out and scrubbed clean. Or maybe he just missed an enemy's head with a shot during a firefight. To blow off steam and relieve stress, he'd occasionally go on a rampage in the streets.

He'd grab his gun and spray bullets into the crowd. Getting wanted didn't matter. If the NCPD showed up, he'd kill the NCPD. If MaxTac came, he'd kill MaxTac. He'd keep killing until his wanted level cleared, and then it was as if nothing had happened.

Of course, it only happened very rarely. At least, that's what V thought. He wasn't a psychopath or anything. It was just a way to relieve mental exhaustion.

As for all the dead civilians? Who cared? He'd suffered enough already. How could he spare any thought for whether other people lived or died?

At last, he reached the main story's ending and chose to take on Arasaka Tower alone, face Adam Smasher, and make his final choice in Mikoshi.

Then...

Everything went black.

He'd transmigrated again.

V opened his eyes and saw Gotham's gloomy sky, with the outline of a gargoyle faintly visible through the rain.

?

What in the DC Universe is this!!!

V clasped his hands reverently and swore to the sky:

"From today on, I'm going to be a model citizen."

This is actually an idea I've been talking about writing since 2022. The protagonist is a huge Batman fan and has a faintly unhinged vibe. (If Batman tells you not to kill the Joker, would you do it? You'd have to kill him even if it killed you. (Just kidding.))

I think the biggest content warning is that the protagonist isn't exactly a good person. He likes Batman because he admires his virtues, but he doesn't want to become him. He's not an antihero. If I had to put it one way, he's just a gamer.

Theme: The result of getting too into a game.
