But he won't escape his destined death.

On the eve of the great battle,

I pray before the Buddha for a lamp that will burn brightly for forty-nine days. I use a forbidden demon-clan technique to change his fate, all so he can come through this ordeal unharmed.

Whenever people speak of that battle, they can't help sighing.

The young general earned countless military honors. Perhaps it wasn't his time to die, or perhaps Heaven favored him. On the brink of death, he found a chance to survive and was still able to fight off many enemies with his sword.

I've repaid my debt as I wished, and it's time to return to the mountains and be a carefree little rabbit immortal again.

The day I leave, the depths of winter have arrived.

Amid the wind and snow, the usually calm and composed boy trembles, snowflakes caught on his long lashes. For once, a hint of panic shows between his brows.

He drapes his dark cloak over me and blocks my way.

"You promised you wouldn't leave me behind, no matter where we went."
