Blurb:
Because of a fortune-telling prophecy, Bai Shuyi, the daughter of a noble marquis's family, was abandoned in the countryside as a child. Without her father's permission, she would never be allowed to return to the capital.
The person responsible had long since made a name for himself throughout the land, becoming an honored guest of princes and nobles and thriving in every way.
Shuyi could not let go of her resentment, and resolved to return to the capital to settle the score.
In the year she came of age, the Prince Huai's son, who had come from the capital Huajing to recuperate in town, was beyond the help of medicine. To save his life, he needed to marry a woman born on the Ghost Festival to bring him good fortune.
And she happened to have been born on the fifteenth day of the seventh month.

People all praised Lu Wuyang as refined and kind, gentle and dignified. It was a pity that he had been frail and sickly since childhood, on the brink of death and relying on medicine to survive each day.
But they did not know that the current head of the Lu family had offended the nine-tailed azure fox spirit they had enshrined. The fox had cursed his descendants to die young and meet miserable ends.
Lu Wuyang was the eleventh among his siblings, and the only one still alive. Yet the curse left him with little time.
Fortunately, Bai Shuyi willingly married him to bring him good fortune.
But on their wedding day, her new husband suddenly died of an illness, turning a joyous occasion into a funeral.
She was forced into a ghost marriage with her dead husband, and a date was chosen to move his coffin and bury them together.
Her plan to return to the capital had come to nothing. Shuyi was unwilling to accept her fate or die here.
On the night of the seventh day after his death, she gripped the dagger hidden in her sleeve. Just as she managed to escape the heavily guarded ancestral hall, she came face-to-face with her dead husband, dressed in wedding robes.
He wore black, a long sword in his hand dripping with blood. The frail young man, usually so gentle and kind, had a cold expression and radiated a bone-chilling killing intent.
Shuyi pushed down her doubts and sobbed as she threw herself into his arms, her lips trembling. "Husband, the ancestral hall is so dark. I'm scared..."
Lu Wuyang pulled her into his embrace and dodged the dagger she aimed at his neck. In a gentle voice, he said, "Right now, I'm the only one who can help you return to Huajing."
"Even if you hate me to the point of madness, I doubt you can bring yourself to take my life."

Everyone said that the legitimate daughter of the Jingyang Marquis's household and the heir to Prince Huai were a match made in heaven. They were perfectly harmonious, the envy of all.
But Shuyi knew that she and Lu Wuyang were merely acting, each using the other to get what they wanted, without the slightest affection between them.
She had thought that once their goal was achieved, they would go their separate ways and never meet again. They had both tacitly agreed to it.
Who could have known that when the day finally came, Lu Wuyang would abandon his usual gentle and kind demeanor? His long fingers gripped her tightly, leaving her unable to move.
His tender eyes were veiled with mist as he spoke hoarsely. "You want to cut all ties with me?"
"What if I refuse to agree?"
