Set in the Ming Dynasty during the Wanli era, after the opening of maritime trade under the Longqing Emperor, this story follows the wave of silver monetization sparked by Zhang Juzheng's implementation of the Single Whip Law, as two great merchant families battle for dominance in the grain transport trade and wage a silk war. Their struggles unfold through contests over salt licenses in Tianjin Guard, cotton cloth dumping in Songjiang Prefecture, and the conversion of warships at the Longjiang Shipyard into merchant vessels.
