"The Ninth Prince has a beloved he must never mention."
It was a secret known throughout the entire prince’s residence, and the first rule you had to follow if you wanted to stay alive.
"Then Your Highness must love that woman very much?"
"No," the head palace maid whispered. "His Highness hates her to the bone."
Yu Yin had accidentally wandered into a side hall and knocked over a pile of portraits of herself. "I-is that so... How unfortunate, haha."

Yu Yin transmigrated into a text-based game she had abandoned more than three years ago.
She couldn’t remember the plot or the characters. All she remembered was that it was a raising-sim game.
The male lead seemed to be an overlooked little prince, sickly and quiet, but very obedient.
She could make him read military manuals for a month, practice martial arts for two months, and go without a day of rest, and he still wouldn’t gain any hatred toward her.
How nice. Which prince was he again?
"The Ninth Prince? Heh, he’s pretty cu..."
Before she could finish, a long saber shot through the air and came to rest at Yu Yin’s throat.
"Guards! We’ve found the assassin who tried to kill the Ninth Prince!"
Yu Yin:
Yu Yin: Wait, what does that mean?!
-
Yan Xi had always known that an evil spirit was attached to his body.
When he was young and being bullied by palace servants, a voice suddenly spoke in his mind, cold and detached: "Kill him."
Yan Xi’s body moved on its own and threw a punch, but the palace servant kicked him to the ground.
His arm was scraped raw, and the voice in his mind was crystal clear: "Hah, not strong enough? Just wait."
From then on, he was made to study ancient texts and martial arts against his will, and to gather allies like a puppet on strings. He also effortlessly overcame everything that threatened him, going from a child his father despised to the most talked-about Ninth Prince.
Yan Xi gradually learned more about the evil spirit.
It was a woman, highly skilled in strategy but claiming she had never practiced martial arts. She loved to laugh, adored sweets, and often told him the sort of outrageous things no one should say...
Perhaps she wasn’t an evil spirit after all.
He began to grow accustomed to her presence, enjoying being controlled by her, looking forward to hearing more about the things she’d seen. He depended on her. He grew attached to her.
Then, without warning, she disappeared.
She was nothing less than an evil spirit. That was what Yan Xi thought.
If he ever met her again, he would be entangled with her for all eternity.
