On an utterly ordinary afternoon, big news spread through a coastal town:
Duke Benjamin's daughter, Tasha, had fled from her wedding.
She had vanished so quickly that people wondered if she had conspired with the elves who had long lived in seclusion in the mountains.
Meanwhile, the town's renowned detective agency had acquired a frail but extraordinarily clever assistant detective.
He was on the agency's wanted list. He had committed more than a dozen murders, and in every case, he had cleaned up so thoroughly that no clues could be found.
Bored out of his mind, he deliberately left clues for the detectives in a new case one time.
Still, no one noticed.
He decided to infiltrate the detective agency and see what was wrong with their heads.
It wasn't long before he set his sights on the assistant detective. Something was off about him, very off.
This was getting interesting, he thought.
Much later, he was caught in an ambush. Filthy blood soaked half his chest as he staggered down a snow-covered street.
The falling snow kept covering the blood dripping onto it, again and again.
Clutching his chest, he felt, for the first time, that he wanted a place to belong.
Dragging his frail body up a hundred or so steps, he collapsed, travel-worn, on the rug beside her bed without disturbing her. His eyes, tinged red, gazed up at the person sleeping in the bed, and he sighed in contentment:
“Let it end here.”
If he died by her side at the end of his life, he would have no regrets.
But the next morning, the sun rose as usual, melting the snow by the window. He, too, seemed to have melted, lying in a soft place.
He opened his eyes and caught a glimpse of Tasha's alluring figure above him before she hurriedly covered herself. She glared at him fiercely.
She pinched his healed wound hard.
“Don't you dare repay kindness with betrayal.”
“Hmm?” He chuckled and said meaningfully, “I won't. I won't, Tasha.”
But after saving someone as greedy as him, she should be prepared for him to cling to her, shouldn't she?
Reading guide: 1. The leads are each other's only romantic partners.
2. The heroine disguises herself as a man, and it takes the hero a while to figure it out.
3. Ben's name will be changed later.
"His Tentacles Are Actually Very Soft [Western Fantasy]"
Wendy noticed that after returning from break, her nemesis seemed to be acting even more strangely.
He would watch her in secret, linger at his desk long after class, then sling on his backpack just as she was about to leave, and deliberately take a detour to the area near her home...
It was entirely reasonable to suspect that
he had something wrong with his head.
In the past, Wendy might have teased him just to pass the time. But she wasn't in the mood now. During the break, she'd rescued an octopus at the end of its rope and kept him in her dark, damp rental apartment, raising him from palm-sized to half the size of the place.
The octopus's tentacles were soft yet strong. He thoughtfully used one to support her, another to hold up her book, and the rest to cook.
He was practically the perfect househusband!
Watching the octopus grow day by day, even lazy Wendy began taking on more jobs so she could move somewhere bigger. Who could have guessed that on the night she paid the deposit on her new place, the octopus who took up half her apartment would disappear?
The apartment had been tidied up completely, as if the unexpected visitor who had barged into her life had never been there.
Wendy, who had just spent a fortune for nothing, immediately flew into a rage: Good riddance! The farther away, the better! She hoped she never saw that jerk again. If she did, she'd beat him up every time.
Half a month later, having grown used to being pampered, Wendy softened: When is he coming back?
It hurt. She missed him.
A month later, it was as if a snail maiden had started visiting Wendy's home. Every night, the furniture was magically restored to spotless condition by morning, and after she finished her daily tasks, her back didn't hurt anymore.
Wendy, who had already given up: !!!
The fishing net was ready.
Mysterious octopus, you still haven't repaid me for saving your life. Where do you think you're running off to?!
Reading guide:
