A Friend's Wife

While traveling to study, Wen Hengzhi happened to pass by and visit a childhood friend.

His friend was just as foolish and naive as ever, like a glass of water so clear you could see straight to the bottom. Yet his friend's wife was always on guard against Wen Hengzhi.

He later learned that his friend's wife was five years older than him. His friend had been frail and sickly as a child, and his family had worried he wouldn't live to adulthood. After a fortune-teller's advice, they had him marry a woman with a strong fate to ward off disaster.

His friend hadn't wanted to marry her, but since she had been raised in his household as a future bride, he had no choice.

After the wedding, he met the woman he loved and wanted to divorce his wife, but he was afraid people would accuse him of abandoning the woman who had stood by him through hardship.

Now he was at his wits' end, asking someone to help seduce his stiff, tearful wife.
