After My Beloved Brought Home a Young Woman

Shen Guiyi's beloved returned, bringing along a young woman who knew medicine.

The woman also produced a yellowed marriage contract, signed by both their grandfathers.

This was a dynasty that valued integrity and keeping one's word. Besides, the Wei family was the foremost literary family in the land and would not tolerate being criticized. No matter how unhappy they were, they had to pinch their noses and accept the marriage.

So Wei Heng found her and told her he had no feelings for that young woman. He was marrying her only to keep his political enemies from finding something to use against him. Shen Guiyi would always be his wife.

He also told her to wait for him.

Shen Guiyi merely smiled without a word, then turned and returned every gift he had given her.

Shen Guiyi thought that once she returned the gifts, they would be even. He could marry his beloved, she could marry someone else, and neither would owe the other anything.

But then he came to her door, covered in blood, holding the head of her newlywed husband.

Like an evil spirit, he advanced on her step by step. His gaze was cold yet ardent as he caressed her cheek.
