From missing out on an important overseas award to being hounded by domestic fans, Chi Zhouli's good days were over.
Not only were they over, he wasn't even allowed to be human anymore!
Ignoring his disastrous reputation, he sneaked back to China. But when he heard a certain name, he was momentarily dazed, stepped wrong, and turned into a beagle.
A beagle that had escaped from a shelter, and was an experimental dog with problems from head to toe.
He sprinted through the crowd and crashed into a pair of gleaming leather shoes.
Dazed by the impact, he looked up and froze.
The man who, half an hour ago, had been holding a trophy and speaking eloquently on the Baihua Awards stage was now looking down at him.
This was Ji Ci, the newly crowned Best Actor, and Chi Zhouli's ex-boyfriend from a failed teenage romance.
Their breakup had been particularly ugly.
Chi Zhouli turned and ran, but after leaving the venue, he realized something was wrong.
Why am I running? The breakup wasn't my fault!

Ji Ci went to the shelter and asked to adopt the beagle by name. The beagle bared his teeth and ran. Even if I have to live on the streets, I'm not going to give in to this scumbag!
But Chi Zhouli was an experimental dog riddled with illnesses. All he could do was wait to die.
To make matters worse, he and Ji Ci had developed a shared sense of emotion, and the only way to make it go away was for the two of them to be together.
He was caught by dog traders, bullied by other strays, and never knew where his next meal would come from.
Young Master Chi was out of options, and eventually went with Ji Ci.
Chi Zhouli thought Ji Ci was a shameless poser. At home, he never obeyed, threw tantrums, rolled around, and turned his backside on him.
But no matter how much trouble he caused, Ji Ci never lost his temper.
No matter how busy he was, he came home from the set every day, cleaned up the mess, and cooked for the beagle.
Chi Zhouli sat to the side and pressed the talking buttons.
"Don't like" "you"
"I" "want" "to eat" "meat"
He never once pressed the button that said "love."
Until one day, Ji Ci happened to open the security camera feed and saw his little dog fiddling with the buttons.
"I"
He turned around and raised a paw. But when he noticed the camera, his furry paw shifted aside.
"I hate you"
"I hate you"
"I hate you"
After pressing "I hate you" for the fifth time, his paw shifted again.
"Chestnut"
"Love you"
After pressing the buttons, the little dog wagged his tail and went off to trash the house.
The smug beagle had no idea that, that night, the man who broke into his home would kiss him until he couldn't get out of bed.
Their friends all knew that the cold, heartless Ji Ci had a beagle who was a menace, especially to him.
But Ji Ci didn't care. He took the little dog everywhere, unable to bear being apart from him.
Others: "Beagles are cute. Want one?"
Ji Ci: "Chestnut is mine. Don't touch him."

1v1, happy ending
1. Both of them were at fault for the breakup, and it was all a misunderstanding. They'll clear things up later. The main characters aren't perfect. If you don't like them, don't insult them, just leave.
2. The main characters grew up together. There will be some flashbacks, but not many.
3. When I say it's a sweet story, I mean the present-day storyline, not the flashbacks. Please be aware before reading. Don't argue with me about it.
4. Puppy Chi will turn back into a human eventually.
5. The setting is fictional, with no real-life inspiration. Everything serves the plot and characters. Please don't project real people onto it.
