Calculating, indifferent woman / obsessive, arrogant man
Ruan Han knows she's no good. To save enough money to study abroad, she gets close to her aunt, who is being kept on the side by the rich and powerful.
She's good at acting. She takes a knife for her aunt, then uses her aunt's influence to climb into the good graces of a rich young man.
One day, her boyfriend takes her out and points to the aloof, dignified man seated at the head of the room in the distance. "The Qi family's young master. He's a lunatic. Stay away from him."
Ruan Han looks over. The man sits at the head of the table, possessing a face impossible to forget.
His long, elegant fingers hold a touch of crimson. He doesn't speak to the people around him, as if bored with the whole place.
Later, her visa application is rejected, and she hits one dead end after another. One day, she goes to a club to find her boyfriend. As she helps him up in a private room, the man hidden in the shadows suddenly raises his eyes and looks her over from head to toe.
Not long after, she becomes the girlfriend the man keeps by his side.

On the day Ruan Han leaves the country, she gives her daughter, barely over a year old, one last hug. The little girl babbles "Mama," and Ruan Han smiles and answers.
"When Sir comes back, tell him it was the old madam's idea."
"No need." Ruan Han strokes her daughter's face, utterly unconcerned. "Tell Qi Chao I left because I wanted to."
She wants neither her daughter nor him.
"Is there nothing you want me to tell Sir?"
A message for Qi Chao?
Ruan Han thinks: He was born with the Qi surname, has lived comfortably his whole life, and now holds enormous power.
Why would he need her to pass along any message? She can't be bothered to stir up her feelings over him, so she says no.
