Timid Ning Cheng X mischievous tentacle monster
Ning Cheng's girlfriend died in a car accident. She was killed on the spot.
Ning Cheng held the disfigured corpse in the hospital and cried until she fainted. Then she cried herself unconscious again at the funeral.
She cried for a month, drinking herself into a stupor at home. She held her phone, sobbing over photos of her girlfriend and remembering every little moment they had shared, remembering how gentle and thoughtful her girlfriend had been.
She drank until she suffered a stomach perforation and ended up in the hospital three times. She drank until a mutual friend pointed at her and called her a useless wreck.
Ning Cheng didn't care. She ignored her doctor's orders and went home to keep drinking.
A typhoon happened to be passing through, and a powerful one at that. Nobody dared to go outside and risk being blown away, so at least no one would come bother her now.
Ding dong. Her phone chimed with a new message. Ning Cheng opened it and saw a mass notice from the building manager announcing a power outage:
"The typhoon has knocked down power lines, and repairs are needed. The power will be temporarily shut off for three hours while the lines are fixed. Thank you for your understanding."
The room plunged into darkness right after.
With her phone almost out of battery, Ning Cheng had no time to get annoyed. She could only rummage through the house for a power bank.
They said three hours, but who knew how long the outage would really last?
It was a typhoon, after all. Just her luck.
With the power out, the air conditioner stopped working too, and the whole apartment began to grow stiflingly hot.
"Ding dong!" The doorbell rang.
Who would come looking for her in this awful weather?
She called out several times, but no one answered. The doorbell kept ringing.
"Who is it?!"
She got up, grumbling, wiped the tear tracks from her face, gripped a beer bottle, and yanked open the door.
If someone had come to start trouble, she'd crack their head open with the bottle.
But the moment she opened the door, Ning Cheng's mind went blank.
The stifling heat vanished in an instant, replaced by a chill that shot up from the soles of her feet.
She could feel her heart pounding wildly, as if it were about to burst through her chest at any moment.
The person outside smiled at her. Just before they could speak, Ning Cheng's hair stood on end, and she slammed the door shut.
That was the exact same face as her dead girlfriend's.
She had watched the body being cremated. So who was standing outside her door?
Then came the beeping of someone trying the keypad lock on the other side. After a few attempts, it announced, "Incorrect password."
The person outside was clearly in no good mood. Even their voice turned cold.
"Darling, why did you change the password?"
"Have you been drinking? Come on, open the door and let me in."
A salty, damp smell seeped in through the door, and Ning Cheng's terror gradually reached its peak.
