On the third night after Qin Songning transmigrated into the body of the newly crowned empress, she ran into her frail, sickly emperor husband while sneaking barbecue in the imperial kitchen.
Their eyes met.
Under the dark, windy night sky, the emperor suddenly said, "The strange changes..."
Qin Songning: "?"
She stared at Zhou Li in disbelief, then tentatively tried the reverse password: "Palace Nectar, one hundred and eighty a cup?"
Zhou Li: "One hundred and eighty a cup!"
They had successfully found each other.
But faced with Chancellor Xie, who held absolute power over the court, Qin Songning was at her wits' end. "My father wants me to get pregnant and save the country by taking care of three at once, but I'm just a lowly workhorse!"
Zhou Li sighed as he counted the utterly empty national treasury ledgers. "I'd like to get into infrastructure too, but the Ministry of Revenue says the chancellor took all the silver for the dam and used it to build his tomb."
That was when they discovered...
Chef Wu in the imperial kitchen had set up a grill in the back: "New Orleans-style roast chicken! Buy three and get a chicken frame seasoned with salt and pepper for free!"
Lord Pei, an assistant minister of the Ministry of Revenue, carried a modern abacus and muttered all day: "Even government bond futures need to hedge risk. There's no reason we can't auction off the salt and iron monopolies as a package..."
And this official, and that official, and yet another official who had appeared out of nowhere: not one of them was acting normal!
Zhou Li trembled as he looked at the memorials. "My beloved consort, how about we just elope?"
#Just how many people have transmigrated?#
Chancellor Xie had lately begun to feel that all the civil and military officials had gone mad.
The Ministry of Revenue kept shouting, "Lower taxes, boost efficiency." The Ministry of Works was firing strange kilns at the foot of the palace walls, and even the imperial kitchen had started running a "50% off your second item" promotion.
Even more terrifying, the emperor had suddenly stopped coughing up blood. He was now raising a glass goblet toward Xie and smiling ominously:
"Chancellor, have you heard of KPI assessments and ranking-based elimination?"

One day, the emperor leaned against his couch, coughing so hard his tears fell like pear blossoms. "My beloved consort, what would I do without you...?"
Qin Songning sneered. "Stop pretending. Chef Wu used brown sugar water to color that."
Zhou Li immediately straightened up and sneakily hooked a finger into her belt. "Then will my empress summon me to her bedchamber tonight?"
Qin Songning unfolded a memorial. "Summon you for what? Get up and help the Ministry of Revenue finish calculating this quarter's KPIs!"
Zhou Li promptly lay flat. "Quick, call the imperial physician! I really am dizzy..."

A goofy, wildly imaginative, nonsensical, sweet little comedy
Just a tiny, tiny bit of court intrigue and a tiny, tiny bit of infrastructure building!
It's probably mostly about the emperor and empress falling in love and everyone's chaotic daily life, lol.
