The First Day I Wanted a Divorce from the Insect Marshal

Vixhill Clas had always thought he was a winner at life as an insect: S-rank, with a powerful marshal, Dracon Sefirion, as his female partner, and a promising career secured at a young age.

His romance with Dracon was like the most traditional insectoid fairy tale. A male insect saves the female insect he loves when he's in trouble, marries him as his female partner, and eventually the female insect is cleared of all charges and falls in love with the male who saved him.

A tall, handsome, gentle, and considerate female partner, always obedient and never jealous.

Vixhill thought this was Dracon's love for him.

Until an accident slowly brought back his memories of being human in his previous life.

Only then did Vixhill realize that what Dracon felt for him wasn't love at all. It was blatant exploitation.

They had been married for seven years without a child because Dracon didn't want to conceive his child.

Dracon married him because he was one of the few S-rank males who wouldn't interfere with his female partner's work, and the most easygoing of them all.

Dracon stayed by his side for seven years simply because the title of S-rank male was so useful.

One moment, Vixhill told Dracon that he would only ever marry him in this life. The next, Dracon used his name as an excuse to take a male concubine out of prison in broad daylight.

Was this love?

As an insect, Vixhill had his doubts. But as a human, Vixhill knew this wasn't love.

All right, Vixhill thought. Let me figure out how to get divorced safely.

1. You may not believe it, but they're both hopeless romantics.

2. There are themes of gender equality, but this story isn't about gender equality. It's about freedom, equality, and love.

3. It might be a three-in-one, but I haven't figured out the other two yet.

Theme: We are all equal before God, but insects don't believe in God, so I need to think about it some more.
