Jiang Yishui had spent three years working a sewing machine. The moment she walked out the gate, she saw the words “Turn over a new leaf” still posted on the wall behind her.
She looked up at the blue sky and white clouds, her eyes gradually turning sharp. She was itching to get up to some trouble and make a quick buck.
Some shady friends found her a job, saying she could go and restore the honor of women everywhere.
Jiang Yishui frowned. She had three rules: no stealing, no prostitution, no farming.
But she wanted fast money.
Her shady friend chuckled and was about to suggest something awful when a strange gust of wind blew by. A crumpled flyer smacked Jiang Yishui right in the face.
She pulled it off and looked at it. Her eyes lit up.
“Hey, you actually gave me an idea.” She shook the flyer. “I'm going to be a bounty hunter.”
She recognized the person on the wanted notice. He was an accomplice of her cellmate's, and was connected to an unsolved murder case.
The case had been shelved for twenty years. It had caused quite a stir at the time, but no matter how much they investigated, they couldn't find the killer.
Eventually, the entire case file was sealed away. All that remained was the strange doodle on the wanted notice.
Her sewing-machine cellmate told Jiang Yishui there was something they weren't allowed to talk about.
Jiang Yishui: “...Then don't tell me. Write it down.”
Her cellmate couldn't write, but she drew a picture for her. It looked like a sycee.
Only later did Jiang Yishui learn that it was a grave aboard a ship that was still sailing.
And she'd just bought a ticket for that very ship.
