Gu Suhe wakes from a coma with all his memories gone. A doctor tells him that his suicide attempt nearly killed him, and that the unborn child he was carrying could not be saved.
His husband is nowhere to be found. All Gu Suhe can recall of him is a vague, indistinct shadow.
The Alpha abandons him in the hospital and arranges, with near-cold-blooded efficiency, for a procedure to remove his marking. Other than leaving him with more money than he could ever spend, the Alpha vanishes from his life without a trace, as if the role of husband had never existed.
People around him are tight-lipped, and he has little information to go on. All he can do is piece together scraps of conversation.
Perhaps the Alpha simply got tired of him. He was too young to settle down, not yet old enough to know how to love. That was why he handled their relationship so coldly and decisively, without a trace of hesitation.
It seemed he had been trapped in a world of endless rain, until he could no longer endure it. Despairing, he had sought a way out, but failed.
As if accustomed to being kept by the Alpha, Gu Suhe has now lost the ability to breathe the air of freedom.
Every night, he dreams of the Alpha and the child who never got to open their eyes. He is despondent, his tears soaking his black hair, his heart so empty it feels as if a piece of it has been shattered.
On a bitterly cold winter night, Gu Suhe, frail and alone, slowly walks into the water, choosing to join the child he never got to bring into the world.
He makes his way upstream, the Omega's slender hands stroking the icy river water. He falls just short, and his feeble breaths never reach the heart of the river.
The one who saves him is a young student at the police academy. The Alpha looks cold and exhausted, handsome to the point of sharpness, with an intimidating air of aggression. His dark eyes conceal his emotions deeply.
The Alpha gathers him into his arms as if scooping up a crescent moon set adrift in the water. The other's dangerous, distant aura does not make Gu Suhe feel unfamiliar or afraid. Instead, it seems to awaken an instinctive dependence in him.
For a moment, he thinks he sees the shadow of someone he lost and got back again in the Alpha. If their child had been born safely, perhaps they would have grown tall like this, with the same striking features as their husband, as if cut from the same mold.
The soaked Omega curls up, chilled, in the Alpha's tight embrace, dazedly grasping at a little strength to keep living.
Caught in a hazy, almost unreal illusion, Gu Suhe weakly murmurs to the Alpha before him as if in a dream: Baby...
