On the day the apocalypse began, everything was calm and uneventful. It was only when a video call came through that Yu Fengyi caught a glimpse of the prelude to the apocalyptic tide.

He had thought supernatural powers were a way to survive that belonged only to their world. He never expected them to be a means for another world to invade theirs.

Once-glorious superpowered people became rats everyone wanted to hunt down. And with the highest danger rating among them, Yu Fengyi naturally became a target pursued by people from both worlds.

To stay alive, he could only struggle to survive in the cracks between them, biding his time and gathering strength.

Then, on a rainy night, a familiar voice, carrying the damp chill of the rain, knocked on his door.

"Is anyone there? I'm an officer from the Outer World. I just need somewhere to shelter from the storm."

Yu Fengyi silently stared at the figure standing ramrod straight despite being soaked through. In the end, he still opened the door.

Thunder crashed. The people inside and outside the house unexpectedly met eyes in that moment.

And Yu Fengyi saw his former lover, once so gentle and kind, wearing an inscrutable, knowing smile he had never seen before.

With half his face submerged in the shadows of the night, he watched Yu Fengyi like a ghost. "Ha... So it really was you, A Yi?"

As the former family member of a Z-level fugitive, Liu Yunhui was naturally placed under strict control after Yu Fengyi disappeared.

At first, he had a little patience for the endless questions and interrogations from those ungrateful people.

But as time passed, Yu Fengyi failed to appear before him for years, and old friends from the past began disappearing one after another.

Liu Yunhui stormed into the laboratory alone and injected himself, from childhood dosage to adult dosage, with every drug capable of activating genes.

Enduring the pain throughout his body, he sat in the shadows and laughed with delight.

In 20xx, a new substance appeared on Blue Star. It eroded the consciousness of living beings, fighting them for control of their bodies.

At first, the mutated people had no minds of their own. They rampaged in packs, and humanity called them zombies.

Later, researchers discovered that so-called mutation was actually a process of selection: the fittest survived, while the rest were eliminated.

Those who evolved successfully became superpowered people. Those who failed became zombies.

Before the apocalypse, Yu Fengyi was a medical master's student with a solid grasp of his field, while Liu Yunhui was a law student with a keen eye for business opportunities at street-food stalls.

After the apocalypse ended, years spent fleeing for his life had made Yu Fengyi forget every last bit of his medical knowledge. With ingredients scarce during the apocalypse, Liu Yunhui had lost most of his once-excellent cooking skills.

The two of them gazed at their newly built home and fell into deep thought.
