A Notorious Beta Decides to Die

Opens once the pre-collection reaches 500.

Lin Sumian has wondered why he's still alive.

His father doesn't like him. His accomplished older brother and younger sister are polite to everyone except him, whom they treat with cold indifference. Lin Sumian thinks, there's nothing he can do. He's a useless Beta, after all.

His childhood sweetheart, an Omega, abandons him for his big brother, then twists the knife before leaving. His heart aches for a long time, and he quietly burns all their memories.

Baseless scandals about him are posted all over the internet. He's not incapable of anger, but a tidal wave of malice drowns it out.

Finally, when the only person who trusts and stands up for him, his mother, dies, he can no longer manage even a sorrowful, tearful expression. Yet he's still accused of being a heartless ingrate.

At the funeral, his family drives him out of the mourning hall. He walks quietly to the river where his mother often took him to play as a child, and silently watches the rippling water.

He thinks it's time for him to die.

When the water reaches his waist, he sees his father and older brother rush toward him in a panic and pull him out of the river.

He stares blankly at the relatives who have never shown him any affection. He manages to say, "Dad," and gets slapped across the face.

Then he learns that his father has just sold him to an Alpha for twenty million.

They didn't come to save him.

They dress him up and send him to the Alpha's bed. The door opens, and a shadow falls over him.

Without a hint of expression, he looks up at the blurred face before him. For a long time now, he hasn't been able to make out people's faces. They all have the same face, the one that curses him.

Lin Sumian asks in a calm, numb voice, "How do you want to play with this notorious piece of trash?"

But the Alpha kneels in front of him, his voice trembling slightly. "You... play with me instead."

Lin Sumian freezes. A tiny stone seems to break the surface of his dead-still eyes.

The Alpha carefully takes his hand and places it on his gland, then repeats himself.

"Please... play with me."

One time, when Gu Jue is touched in his atrophied reproductive canal, he can't help grabbing Lin Sumian's shoulder and baring his fangs toward the back of his neck.

Lin Sumian stops and looks at him blankly. "Do you want to mark me?"

Gu Jue goes rigid. His Adam's apple bobs, and at last he breaks down, biting his own arm and lowering his head to offer the gland at the back of his neck to Lin Sumian's mouth.

"Bite me."
